Would you buy an electric car ?

I would quite happily have a decent electric car and a decent large engined petrol car for longer journeys if it was cost effective to do this.

Id be extremly happy to buy one now on the current technology however the price is currently too prohibitive.
Not long ago I looked at getting a g-wizz for commuting until I realised how utterly dire they were in terms of comfort and safety.

Not for a long time it would seem, They cost a silly amount to actually buy and have no where near the range I'd like.

I also live in apartments at the moment and my parking space is across a car park. Not sure how I'd charge one on a night.

No, I love the roar/feel of a powerful engine combined with the petrol smell. Of course, the next generation will probably think we are all crazy and "old fashioned". I wouldn't complain about the decrease in fuel costs though!

Looking at current technology and taking cost out of the equation my ideal setup would be:

My car (mixed use. very short commute plus variable work mileage)- plug in hybrid
GFs car (13 miles a day into Norwich and back) - electric

Cost is way too high at the moment and I'm not sure of the viability of buying either second hand.

Yes and I think the nissan leaf is the start of the change of ver. Especially in japan fast recharge within 40miles and America which are installing thousands in 12 key cities.

Roads are to busy to enjoy driving, so silent and no gears is a massive upside, then a weekend car for tracks and the occasional country hoon.

In short, no I wouldn't, I like internal combustion engines.

That doesn't mean I can't ever see a time when I might have both though.

Yep, might be the way to go in the long run.

I think the range on a pure electric car is just too small for a lot of people.

I have a works van to get to and from work, But I also rack up a fair few miles during the day driving from job to job.
My car only gets used for small mileage on a night or on a weekend, Great lets have electric. But no, For example at the end of april I have a 500 mile round trip to complete, Last year we had a weekend in the lakes and I racked up 400+ miles in 3 days.
I couldn't have a work van, electric car and then long range (fun) car.

Nope - just doesn't interest me at all. Next car I own (which isn't a work car) will hopefully have a big fun engine which makes lots of noise.

Though if work offered a hybrid I would consider it.
