Would you ever leave the club you support?

Jack Walker would not sell him to United.

End of story.

He had the offer, he had the talks, Walker would not accept the bid.

Yup, that's how I remember it as well, we bid 5 and Newcastle bid 5, we met all his demands and he was happy.

It's a myth that he tunred us down, if he was so much of Geordie hero he would have joined them after Southampton when Newcastle wanted him.

Yes.
I gave up supporting the team i have followed for over 40 years afer the England fiasco/humiliation.
I don't even watch/listen to the results any more.

To be fair mate, you're proably best not seeing the results :D

No.

Following the Toon has been an education since I went to my first match in the mid 1980s and it has been a roller coaster. The main stand was nothing much more than a glorified cow shed then before it was demolished and the Milburn Stand was built. The old riot fences were still up then as well.

Celtic are my team and if I played for them it would be a lifetime deal.

Same here, mainly because i dont wanna leave Glasgow (not so much the city, but friends and family). Larsson will probably be celtic's best ever player.

He could have went to anybody (and he did after a very long service to celtic he went to barcelona and manchester united) but he stayed loyal.

I'm sure if someone like him was to come along again, celtic wouldnt mind shelling out on wages side of things, so long as he stayed there for 5+ years.

if i didnt have so many close friends and family in glasgow, i would leave in a heartbeat though, money is money after all.

still see Shearer as a good example of a player who chose his club over money/glory.

At the time he had united after him and let's be honest they could easily have out paid Toon. Also he could have had a lot more sucess at united despite Newcastle coming close.

He made sure he was well rewarded for playing for newcastle which he deserves but he could easily have had more money and sucess elsewhere.

Personally I would stay at my club and drag them up by myself if needs be. Only way they would get me to leave is if the club forced me out for them to stay financially solvent.

Weren't Newcastle challenging when he signed? It would be interesting to see if he would have joined if Newcastle were in the same situation they are in now back then

I support Spurs but I would be a City Mercenary and get as much money as possible. A football career is short, you might as well make hay while the sun shines. Spurs have a wage cap of 65k or thereabouts, with city the sky seems the limit and if I was offered 200k a week it would be hard to say no.
