I managed to pick up some 2nd user 4600mhz DDR4 memory, I checked the new prices online and they all seem to be £350 +++ for 16GB! The memory I bought, Corsair LPX, that seems to sell for £499 brand new!

I paid nowhere near that price 2nd user and I am sure a lot of people will say that 4000mhz brand new at a much more sensible price would be the better option when buying new.

But my main question is ....why is 4600mhz DDR4 such a crazy high price?

I am not saying is it worth it, but do people actually pay the full brand price?

It's top bin stuff, so very rare hence expensive.

Memory is made on an assembly line, then, when a chip is made and separated into bins of different speeds. All memory isn't the same when made, some can run faster than others for a specific voltage so is deemed higher quality and put into a higher speed 'bin'. So the higher the speed the better the quality of the RAM on average, as you get faster less and less RAM is able to run at those speeds so it's rare and the RAM makers can charge a premium for it.
