hi, im looking for some wrist supports for weight lifting and i'd like some advice. I'm a bit confused at the prices. They range from about £5-15. Is there anything to justify the price difference or is it just different brands?

Also can anyone recommend any or a good site. Most i find want about £5 delivery!

Cheers

Every now and then i get a bit of pain in my left wrist when doing a few exercises.
Which exercises? I used to get bad wrist pains when doing upright rows and straight bar bicep curls. I also got it on the bench now and again due to bad form.

yea i also get wrist pains like that...:( do the supports help? might need to get some...

I hurt my wrist just before christmas doing uptight rows.

It hurt doing any upper body exercises, especially triceps. What hurt more though was having to stop training for a couple of weeks.

For support I use a simple bandage when I go to the gym.

Its happening on seated dumbell shoulder press. I mainly want the supports to, obviously, provide support and keep my wrist stronger in the excercise.

I've not had any experience of wrist supports, so I don't know how much use they would be, but I started doing wrist curls to strengthen my wrists. I thought it was probably better, in the long run, to strengthen rather than just support my wrists. I also completely stopped doing upright rows and now use the calf machine for my trap exercises. I don't get any wrist pains now so I think the wrist curls have helped. To answer your original question, I don't know of any sites that supply wrist supports but I'm sure there are loads that do.

Cant imagine why the seated DB press would hurt the wrist so much, how are you holding the weight? Is your hand leaning backwards over the wrist or something (dunno if that makes sense)? Have you tried dropping the weight and seeing if that makes a difference?

Dont do upright rows! In a word - rubbish!

Heavy shrugs is the best way to hit your traps (other than deadlifting of course).

I'm pretty interested i broke my left wrist pretty bad over a year back and its screwing me over for most thing such as push ups and bench presses etc :(

I've got one support but i've lost the insert so it doent do much any more

I guess i have pretty big wrists (can't touch fingers if i wrap my hand around it) and i use the 50cm ones. they have velcro fastenings so are quite adjustable.

Ditto that.

Try and avoid excercises causing great strain on your wrists or lower the weight. One thing I can no longer do is a tricep one where you have the rope over your head and push forward as it cracks my bone each time lol, some say the wrist wraps are really good so I may get some soon as the pain is getting worse and makes your gym days...well..***** and demotivates you :/

No swearing.

Just an update on the straps. Got them today and they were a great help, performed the excercises that usually strain the wrists and had no pain at all.

Thanks oddjob for the recommendation!
