WRT54G router - best 3rd party firmware??

Got a V2 WRT54G router which ive had for a couple of years now.
Ive never updated the firmware on it but have been told that its worth doing, security enhancements etc and also the 3rd party firmware upgrades give extra options, functionailty etc.

Ive looked at linksysinfo.org but can someone recommend the best/safest 3rd party firmware to use with this router.

I was using DD-WRT v23 final on my WRT54G v2 with no issues at 70mW power output

I now have a WRT54GS v4 on the stock firmware, I need to get round to doing the firmware sometime

Definitely DD-WRT v23.

Cheers just upgraded the router to this firmware v23.
Seems very stable and gives a lot more options etc.
