I just spent the the weekend at Brands Hatch, for the first World Touring Car Championship race at Brands Hatch GP circuit. This was my first opotunity to test out my Canon S3IS and i took around 600 photos, and 500mb of video, 2.8gig of data overall. I really liked the camera, and it seemed much more suited to action shots than my dads Nikon 4800 i used before (search for my BTCC thread).

The weather on friday was "ok", light showers now and then, Saturday was a bit more wet, and well sunday was probably the worst day of rain ive ever had to sit through while watching motor racing out in the elements... it was even worse than the British GP at Silverstone in 1998. Anyway, to the pictures.

Saturday

A sign of things to come???

After a massive downpour on Saturday the track started to dry up, apart from this River pouring out of the the gravel trap!! Aquaplaning Action ahead.

Drivers soon learnt to drive around it....

Some ran wide, hitting the standing water and probably soiling there pants. note full lock, drivers come around here at 90mph plus, then hit standing water JUST before they straighten up.... a lot of people went off from this, but i was unable to get proper shots due to the fence in the way.

Formula Palmer Audi guys with big slicks and lots of downforce didnt have too much trouble

WTCC Races.... very wet.

Some After action shots donuts in carpark = mess

edit:To dons and members, Sorry for spamming so many pictures, but it was hard to cut down to this few shots from over 600 shots. i hope the 640 picture size is not too overloading. Im also not sure if this should be here, or in Motors section.

Nice set, although I think that most of them need the colours improving, upping the contrast and messing about with levels ect. Keep up the good work :D

Great shots Fella :)

Nicely focussed - I don't have much luck with "moving targets" whenever I try to capture them :(

I assume you panned to stay in focus?

i never know what to do when doing this, like what needs improving with the colours? upping the contrast seems to mess with the pictures that i tried to edit, and what are levels?

I need a guide to make my work look more professional :)

yeah, some shots i did fast shutter speeds, others i done rather long shutter speeds, but i was always panning and trying to keep the car centerd. The longer the weekend goes the more "used" to the speed of the cars i get.

the only problem i had was it being so wet/dark on sunday that a lot of my shots are not very good due to high ISO etc.

I must admit the Canon S3IS is probably the best camera ive ever used, not that ive used a DSLR. The movie mode is fantastic, and saves me carrying around TWO cameras, one for pictures, one for film. Thats why i chose that over the Canon 350D DSLR.
