X-Factor - Downloads not eligible for official UK chart!! :D

Why does everyone get into an uproar about what is at number 1? You all make it sound like you have to go out and buy the single by law if it gets to number 1.

Do yourself a favour - ignore the charts.

It was ironic that people last year protested about the gullible buying X-Factor music and then went and bought RATM because somebody told them to do so.
Not a single person would have bought KITNO if they hadn't been told to do it.
Some gullible people bought up to 7 copies each.

100% agree.

In my opinion it wasn't about gullible people buying a track, it was about making a point that a lot of people don't like the way that the X-Factor winner should automatically make it to christmas number one.

I voted with my purchase of the RATM song and would gladly do so again this year if it stopped the X-Factor winner from getting number 1 again.

Edit - do you think they just hapenned to finish the X-Factor series in time for christmas number one release material? I don't think so.

It only gets to number 1 if people buy it and nobody is told to buy it unlike RATM.
Don't get me wrong - I had a smile from ear to ear on Christmas Day but the vast majority didn't buy it because they liked it (but some grew to like it).

i disagree. i'd say everyone who watches xfactor is told to buy the winners music, just perhaps not directly (though maybe they're told directly idk, xfactor are that in your face with their advertising methods perhaps they do).

i'd make a guess that a very large chunk of the people that buy the xfactor winners single are people who watch xfactor and not just someone who has heard it on radio etc and decided they liked it enough to buy.

No we aren't.
I've watched every episode from day one and nobody has ever told me I must go out and buy the single.
Besides that the record wouldn't sit well next to Slayer, Metallica, Clawfinger, The Wildhearts and so on.
You also have to remember that X-Factor is watched by around 15.62 million people and only 450,000 gullible people bought Joe McElderry's record so you do the percentage maths.
The vast majority of people watch it for entertainment with no intention of buying any X-Factor records.

Now here's interesting.
While looking for figures I never thought that every time an X-Factor artist sings something that actual record sales by the original artist goes up.
Obviously obvious but not obvious enough.
When Gayboy McElderry sang Don't Stop Believin and Open Arms the sales of Journey records went up dramatically in this country by the 'gullible' searching for the original record.

Absolutely right, however I would say that there are a percentage of people who watch the X-Factor who do buy the single because the X-Factor artist has sung it, the X-Factor is very good at advertising itself/it's own interests.

I don't watch the show per-se but my brothers missus watches it so I caught some over dinner a week or two ago, and Joe McElderberry was releasing his new album, so of course he came on and sang his song (Did anyone else see this? I couldn't tell if it was a woman or a man singing!) and the album got plugged on the show.

In the long run I think the show is all about making money, which the producers and the presenters market very well. Simon Cowbell is one of the biggest earners currently presenting at the moment so they must be doing something right.

The entire concept of the charts should be revamped, so that talentless karaoke morons on a crappy TV show are never eligible for chart entry unless they write their own music and lyrics.

Stop profiteering off ruining good music.

meh i think we're just going to have to agree to disagree.

xfactor is clearly in it for the money (why else would they do it?) so it's obviously in their interest to get people to buy their music. i honestly don't think xfactor has many morals so have no problem pulling any trick to ensure they get more sales and money. xfactor advertising reminds me of that simpsons episode when suddenly everyone wanted to Yvan Eht Nioj

also just because a small percentage bought the single that watched the show has nothing to do with what i was saying and doesn't prove me wrong at all. i said that of those apparently 450k singles sold i bet almost all were xfactor viewers, not all xfactor viewers buy the single..

I look forward to the day the Xfactor is axed.

I have never heard so many really good vocal songs destroyed by so many talentless out-of-tune singers that just aren't strong or professional enough to pull their own versions off.. It's nothing but depressing to watch (but probably enjoyable enough for a Saturday night for young adults who don't know how good the originals sound)

At least they can't touch the last 20 years worth of decent dance/house/techno music - that really would be a crime ;)

There are many more channels on the TV that you can turn to for a couple of hours.
I'm pretty sure that X-Factor has no impact on your life that you would want it to be removed.
There are 1000s of TV programs I wouldn't watch but I don't want them to be axed, that is rather childish.

reason for my dislike of xfactor, though perhaps not for it to be completely revoed as it seems to keep a lot of a certain type of people busy, is because so many people i know are stuck watching it saturday and sunday evening so if i'm around those people at those times they'll end up watching that and i'm stuffed. it's worst around family as say i go home to be with them, it's wasted by this show. i wouldn't say it's their fault either tbh, xfactor is marketed in a way to almost brainwash people in to watching it. you only have to see how many dum dum dum dum music moments, how many sad my parents never supported me and my child is my motivation moments, how many flashing lights there is, "welcome to the XFACTORRRRRRRR" etc.

I record it because I'm usually gigging on a saturday with a proper live band with proper instruments (still doing covers though).
I also watch all the performances first to the end so I can judge properly and then go back to the beginning and run through to the Judges comments.

Wow man, sounds to me like you take it way too seriously.

I record it so I can skip all of the adverts/filler.
