Is it possible for me to get bass on Vista?

I have a X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card and Vista Ultimate 64. At the moment my satellite speakers are producing the bass rather than my subwoofer. I had the same issue in XP but I could use the THX Setup Console to enable 'Bass Redirection'. That let's the subwoofer then do its job. In Vista however, the drivers are not compatible with the THX Setup Console!

Is there a way around this yet? Or will I need a new sound card?

I think if you go to 'Sound' in Control Panel then right click on 'speakers' then select either 'peroperties' or 'configure' then you can set-up whether you have 2/2.1 speakers connected to your PC. The wizard with then ask whether your satellites are full range or not.

Not in front of my Vista PC at the mo, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

Thanks for response S_D.

I can go through that process and the subwoofer performs like I would expect it to. However, in games, movies and music it doesn't. :(

I assume somebody would have found a way around this here as there must be hundreds of OCuk members with Vista, a X-Fi and a sound system that requires bass redirection.

Help please! :D

That's good, been looking for that. Works nicely with the Audigy 4 Pro I use. Thanks.

Got it sorted now. :)

Although the THX Setup Console won't install the usual way, you can search the folders manually on the disc and run the 'Audio' installer. Without installing anything else you can then combine the latest X-Fi drivers with the THX SC.

With this combination my X-Fi is now working with my system as it should and the bass is thumping! :D

Everything works in Vista apart from DD and DTS (legal/License reasons).

You need grab the Vista APP .ISO from Creative (linked to from the forums).
