Okay, this is not intended to be a medical thread per se. I'm not asking for medical advice or opinions, just for people's experiences with the practicalities and costs of using private medical care.

I've been referred by my GP for a chest x-ray. I can get one on the NHS, but I really don't fancy waiting anxiously for 2 weeks to get the results (which could be quite serious).

I'm wondering, has anyone here been for a chest (or similar) x-ray at a private hospital, and if so how much did it cost you? Also, how long was it before you got your results?

In the off-chance that someone has experience: Can anyone recommend somewhere around Nottingham?

Nottingham Nuffield Hospital
Queens Medical Centre

Difficult to say how much you could spend.

Could be £750, could be £2,750.

Not an XRAY - but got a pelvic Ultrasound 2 weeks ago ( Private )

Consultant ( that refferred me ) - charged £75
Doctor ( that did the Ultrasound) - Charged £50
Hospital ( that the doctor did the Ultrasound at ) - charged £75

Still have to go back to the consultant again once he gets the diagnosis from the doctor, and still waiting for the cost of 7 blood tests from the hospital.

So a fair bit.... ( but all completed in 2 weeks - compared to 8 months wait on the NHS)

Good job I don't have to pay anything.

I've had a full MRI scan for less than £750 in a private hospital!

My old dear had multiple x-rays and some kinda scan on a frozen shoulder & got hit with £750.

Thanks guys,

By the sounds of it I guess I'm looking at around £200 ish then for a single x-ray and results-consultation.

As for the wait - I was told by the GP that it would be around 2 weeks for results from the QMC (on the NHS), and that results would be sent to the GPs surgery. Of course, I have to wait to get an appointment with the GP after that also...
