Hey guys, my current gfx card (9800 pro) kind of does not want to work with games anymore so I’ve been looking for a replacement. I have about £130 to spend on one and I’m not sure on which one of these cards would be better for gaming, there both in the "This Weeks Only" part of the OCUK site.

Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advanced :D

Try not to buy a old dx9b / p.s 2.0 card today if you like games, thats all X800/850's get some kinda NV 6000/7000 or newer ATI

EDIT, I will leave card madoel range above but I have since noticed your price of £130.

I was forced to face the same decision last week because my 9800 pro died after I fitted a vga silencer on it.

I went for the x1600 pro 512mb in the end because I had a tight budget and this card happened to be on special offer here in ocuk last week.

Well, it does exactly what it says on the tin... "The Absolute in Mainstream Gaming Performance". Nothing more, nothing less, although it does have all the fancy features like AVIVO, SM3.0 & HDR. Don't get me wrong though I still think it's a good card for the price.

It won't impress you much if you are upgrading from a 9800 pro, so I would say go for the X800GTO if you can or just stick with your 9800 pro for a little while and save up for a 6800gs, that is if you are not planning to move onto pci-e system soon.

My rig:

P4 Prescott 2.4A oc 3.6
OCZ EL platinum 1Gb dual chnnel kit rev.2
P4P800E - Deluxe

With this card I got 189XX in 3dmark 01, 7300 in 3dmark 03, and 4165 in 3dmark 05.

Hope that helps :)

there is no such thing as a DX9b card  . Graphics cards either support DX9 or they do not. the a,b,c, on Direct X represents improvements to the directX software platform which any DX9 card can then make use of.

the X800GTO would be the better option if your on a budget and its far better than the frankly, quite poor X1600 range. i dont know what it is about ATI and anything involving *600 ...

9600 ... Pants
9600pro ... so,so
9600SE ... pants
X600 ... Pants
X1600pro pants.

i think i spot a pattern... :p

an even better option than that would be a 6800GT which can be found second hand for £135 ish,
