x1800/7800 to x1900/7900 worthwhile??

Looking for a bit of a move up from my current X800XL - would those of you with X1800/7800 pay the extra to the newer card at the moment? Is it really worth the extra?
I ask so can decide if to go with previous or current gen, dont really have much more than £170 to spend on a card so looking like X1800/7800

Also which of these is fit happily in SN25P?
 
Depends heavily on the resolution you play at TBH.

The difference between say the X1800 and the X1900 (both XT models) is minimal (+10%) at best in resolutions 1280x1024 and below.

If you are limited to this resolution or below then go with the X1800XT or the 7900GT. Both are excellent cards.

EDIT: Just realised you will be sticking it in a shuttle, Get the 7800GT if this is the case. (just seen your budget as well).

Definately the 7800 GT if its for a shuttle, the x1800 is a dual slot cooler so will probably not fit, and the 7900 GT is about £70 over your budget. :)

7800 GT would be ideal as its a single slot cooler, and doesn't produce much heat, or use a lot of power like the x1800's. :)

Both cards will fit the shuttle sn25p..With the x1800xt fitted you will loose the use of your pci slot because of it's dual slot heatsink..
 
If the x1800 will fit, then id go for that, its faster than the 7800 GT, and even the GTX, would be a huge boost from your x800 XL, i went to the x1800 XT from an x800 XT PE, and was blown away by the performance increase. :)
 
X1800XT faster than the 7800GTX? Im a complete tart and show no loyalty to either card manufacturer but currently looking at 7800GT's for around £150 second hand. Is this a fair price?
Anywhere showing the performance of X1800XT vs the 7800's. I notice we have an XT for £200 in this week only so am tempted :D
 
In terms of speed:

X1800XT (fastest) > 7900GT > 7800GTX > 7800GT

of the cards in your price range.
 
ah nice, just what i was looking for. Think that may of made my mind up on what card to go for aswell. Currently still AGP with an x800xl. Got the cash for the new mobo, but the 1900xt seemed a long way of, 1800xt a lot closer ;)
