Hi,

I have already posted some posts re this card and whether I should buy it for my new HTPC. Now I am seriously considering to buy it against the 7600GT since in all reviews I found they all say that it beats it without problems. Any the best thing of all is that the price is very good. I also heard that picture quality on LCD screens is great. I will use it for an HTPC and buy an Arctic Cooling to keep it silent.

One of my last concerns is whether ATI drivers support resolution of 1366x768 or else 1360x768 without problems since the LCD screen I will plug it with has this resolution.

Thanks

I'd definately et it over the 7600gt mate, it's in a different level of performance and for the price at the moment is is really a bargain :)

Will easily power all games at that res.

Hi,

Thanks for the immediate reply. But will the ATI drivers support that resolution or will I have problems.

Mind you the TV has a PC Input and an HDMI input.

Thanks

It all depends on if your going to play a lot of games on your HTPC. As you really dont want a toasty 2 slot X1800XT in there when you can have a totally silent and cool 7600GS.

Hi,

The fact that it takes 2 PCI slots is putting me off. But for all other things I think it is worth it since it has support for features such as 10 bit display etc.

Re noise that is why I was planning to get an Arctic cooling since I heard that they are really silent and you don't hear its fan.

Thanks

I am planning to play games even though it will not be my highest priority.

However I wish to have the ability that if I want to play games I would be able to without any problems. I would also use the PC to watch TV and play DVDs etc.

And the main reason that I was going to buy that card is that it is a very good price.

Thanks

Well get the X1800 then if it will fit in your htpc, remember you might want dual tuners, a soundcard etc in their too, so make sure you have enough room, specially if you have a mATX htpc.

Hi,

Thanks for the help. I have a full ATX case since I bought a Thermaltake Tenor. I also have an external USB DVB-T tuner so hopefully I will have enough room.

Thanks.

Hi,

I have the 256mb X1800XT which is on offer at OCUK and I have a 32" HD ready LCD TV with a native resolution of 1366x768.
My card can output 1360x768. Using a good DVI cable gives me HD gaming on my 32" LCD :)

It is fantastic playing games like Need For Speed Most Wanted :D

My advice, hit it mate!

Which HDTV do you have as ATI drivers have issues when using DVI? Most HDTVs do not report their max resolutions corectly over DVI. With Nvida drivers it is easy to overide and force 1360*768 but it is not always possible with ATI drivers. I had to go back to a 6600 from a x1800XL as it would only work over VGA and the quality was naff compared to DVI

HI,

I am finding out that many people are having problems with this resolution. I am really worried with this thing. So did it work for you without any problems.

I want to buy this card but if I find that there might be problems it is better I stick with a 7600 GT and then get a heat sink instead of the stock cooler. (By any chance does anyone know of any third party cooler for this card?)

Thanks
