Any no how to set a permant fan speed for the x1800xt. I can change it with the overclock program but I have to do it every time. Been testing it at differnt speeds. default 2500 RPM temps are 78 ish tonight. At 3500 RPM that drops to 60. My systems so loud anyway I cant tell the differnce so I might as well run it at that all the time and overclock it some more :D

EDIT: oops I mean rmp

Try ATI tool..I know you can change the fan speed with it...

I can't remember if it keeps the setting after shut down and restart.

Bad move m8, constantly pounding your ears will have an effect, trust me. Im having to get rid of my crt because it is humming and my left ear sings at me. If I dont go near my PC its ok, but once on a plane I asked if there was a strange whinning noise. Its made my ear hyper sensitive.

First mistake I made was buying an OcUK "tornado", cant see how anyone would sell that without a servere health warning. Unfortunately Im not even joking.

first question. No I aint clocked with rivatuner, I used the overclock program. However I got board and flashed it to a PE, now I can put the clocks up as far as I want with ccc.

second question 0.25r14 yep im sure it dont work. However differnt people and getting differnt things to work so who knows.

An finally Im going water cooling soon. Going to miss out of my next graphics card upgrade in the summer to pay for it. Should sort the noise out :p Plus I want something new to play with.

Hello there Jack im wondering weather to flash my x1800XT 512 to PE, iv looked and has 6 mosfets next to the thin red heatsink at the back of the card, can it be done ? and whats the risks ? the max I can currently get in CCC (on auto) is 665core 797 mem, how would I flash it ?

First thing to do is get overclock program ( im not discribing it there thats what its called ;) ). Use that to overclock and make sure you can make 700 on the core and 800 on the memory. Forget about ccc auto overclock, it just crashed my system. Rivatuner can be used to monitor temps and to make sure your clocks are being enabled in £D mode (sometimes mine didnt, but a quick restart sorted it). Once you have confirmed these clocks by running 3Dmark for a bit you can flash it. You need a flash utlity and an x1800xt PE bios. It does it in windows and takes 2 mins. The flash I used had a tick box called force that you had to enable as the bios does not match the card so it wont flash it without that enabled. Restart PC, run £D mark a bit make sure its fine. Thats about it. If ive missed anything please add.

Im at uni at the moment so I dont have the links to these programs or the time to find them. If you dont find them I will add them to this post in the morning if you let me no. Search the forum for x1800xt, they r in a post some where.

Risk is small if you are carefull and make sure your card clocks to thos speeds first. There is no voltage increase when flashed ( or at least there was not with mine, I used a sapphire bios )

As for the transistors as far as im awere all x1800xts are the same board so I dont think you need to worry about that

That's not necessary at all. The PE bios increases the volt to 1.48, so it clocks much further. And the timings are a bit more slack with the PE bios I believe. I've heard about a few card getting unstable, but most cards make it fine. The first thing I did was to flash the card, easy peasy :)

So here's my question: How can I set the memory speed over 800 in CCC? Strange, because I can increase core speed to 5000mhz ( :D ), but the memory only to 800mhz. It works with the program called "Overclocker", but I would like to use CCC...

Stange, my voltage stayed the same. Have you taken that from word of month or checked it in atitools ( not having at ago just wondering, might change bios for some more volts at some point )

And yes testing your card at 700/800 first is advisable, I admit its unlikly it wont work but you tell him that after hes killed it and cant RMA cos its got a PE bios on

Yeah, I checked with rivatuner, goes to 1.48V. But remember that it only increases during 3d program/games. So even though his card WON'T be stable at those speeds, it will only show during gaming, not during 2d work :)

Hmm..have to have a look at that. Only checked mine in 2D.
Even with that the voltage increase I would still recomend checking the card will run at that speed. At least you have an idea of the risk then. True its almost certain to work but for the time it takes to check... Its up to you at the end of the day. what ever you feel comfortable with.

Yeha the volts do change in 3d but as long as ** temps are looking ok then its all gdgd! :D

my load is 70 so thats fine! Basically not all x1800xts are the same, i think it was maybe the gecube ones which were slightly different as the PE bios dont work with them! Im unaware as to why but I heard that you NEED the 6 mosfets and as long as you have 6 then the PE bios is fine to use!

Gives awesome performance tho :D

I heard there was a revision with more mosfets, and I believe they are a weak point in the card (meaning extra cooling may help). The x1900 has 7 mosfets I believe also if ** going to watercool then watch the temps of the mosfets and add airflow if necessary.

There were two revisions of the pcb. Very early x1800 had 5 mosfets, later (most) have 6 and should flash to PE ok.

Oh and one thing left out from above thread, drop the clocks to 500/500 before you flash. I learnt the hard way.
