X1800xt - How on earth to overclock?

Hi, I bought this card recently and have tried everything to overclock it, Used ATI Tool and rivatuner they dont work properly, frequences go back to 475/700, ATI Tray Tools doesnt support overclocking on these cards and ATI CCC only allows max overclock of 690/800 with no voltmodding capabilities.

I've tried using that overclocking tool thing and that didnt work, I dont know what todo argh! It's not that im being fussy to get a slight overclock, these can overclock a fair bit and would make the newest games faster at top settings, what have you guys done to overclock?

iirc - if you are sure the card can take PE frequencies - if you flash it to a PE then the CCC will allow for higher clocks?
search for the PE thread... sure there is more info to be had there.

What is the stock volts for the pe bios? And what are PE frequences, its a bit scared to flash it to that but I can always flash it back if it goes pear shaped.

EDIT: Just searching for the x1800xtpe bios flash thread, cant find it anyone link me? And will any old x1800xtpe bios do or do I need the exact one for the sapphire x1800xtpe? (Sapphire being the make of my card).

I have the 256mb version, is it possible to flash this with the xtpe bios?

Ati tool works for overclocking these cards, you need to read the guide ;) my card is @780/830 :D So it definatly works

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17534763

works the same for all the X1XXX cards

Rob
ensure you read the guide fully and for God's sake don't use the Auto feature. Some people have reported fried cards by the auto-feature not knowing quite when to stop.

ATI CCC OVERDRIVE LIES!!!!

It claims to overclock the card to 690/800 but it totally doesnt.

I ran ATI CCC at 690/800 right, 3dmark 05 score of 9244.

Ati tool at 660/825 = 9373

Ati tool at 680/825 = 9598

As you can see ATI CCC is a load of crap, it barely overclocks the card just a blatent lie.
I've only got my cpu at 2.4ghz btw until I get another ram dimm to match one of mine so i can have the cpu at the desired 2.7ghz

Wouldnt supprise me I can't even achieve 690/800 stable with ATiTool bit works with CCC.. Not that ATITool is reliable, it could just be changing some memory timings or something..

Yep, it seems it does. I tested ATi Tool with Catalyst 6.3 last night and could only get my clocks up to 650/750 before yellow artifacts started to appear with my cooler set at default fanspeeds. :o CCC was letting me go up to "690/800" but of course I now think that's BS.

It is, 690/800 is a decent overclock on the core and only give you an extra 300 on 3dmark05 is a load of ********, wack the core upto 1.4v on ati tool and try 680 on the core, much better frames.

I was going to put the voltage up but I don't want any more heat output until I get a VF900 fitted. CBA with the stock fan going faster than 45% TBH and it's 80ºc at that. :o

Edit: Hah, 1000 posts. I talk too much.

Yeah I might 100% the fan and volt up as temps seem to drop to like 40ºc at that speed, but I'd only do that for a quick bench as 100% is like a jet engine with these and I do most of my gaming at night.

Seriously need to get myself a Zalman so I can overclock properly without CCC lying through its teeth.

Yep, I definitely agree. 10k is my goal, and I could prolly get it easily if I fitted an Arctic Freezer 64 to my CPU (using stock cooling atm), and it would help if I could overclock this card properly too without the stupid CCC playing playschool overclocking on me giving false readings and playing pretend. :(

Everyday game i'd be happy with 10-10.5K

I'm sure if I wacked my cpu upto 2.7 (at 2.4 atm), did windows tweaks, open side window etc etc I could reach 11K, but no point living on the edge aiming for 10.5K (will probably need a core of 750 or a little less? Will need 1.5V and and a vf900, prob wont reach it but will defiently get over 10K which i'm happy with.

Wont have a vf900 for ages and ages though, skint like.

Socket 939 Venice 3200@ 2.4ghz.

The CPU actually oes upto 2.7ghz, but i've got mixed ram, I need either a geil ultra 512mb dimm or a corsair xms c2pt to get my system running at 2.7ghz, i'll upload some results to see how the overclock is under 2.4ghz and 2.7ghz tonight, I have 2X256 dual channel modules but obviously these arent ideal for normal day usage as 512mb ram isnt enough.

Ah right. When you said 2.4GHz and a goal of 2.7GHz I thought you had the same processor I do, lol. :D I'm using a socket 754 Newcastle, kind of old, but it doesn't seem to be clocking too badly considering I'm using stock cooling, a ghetto motherboard, and cheap-o Corsair Value RAM to push it.

I think you're right about the RAM, by the way. 3D Mark seems to be happier since I upped to 2GB from 1GB, so you should definitely see a boost. :)

LOL I wish, when I run 3dmark at 2.7ghz its with 512mb ram, when at 2.4ghz its 1 gig of ram, im tyring to get ahold of ram that will allow me todo 2.7ghz with 1gig of ram :(
