I just installed a x1800xt card with 512mb. And I run 3d mark 05 and the score I'm geting is 7116 at stock speeds. Is this not a bit low for a x1800xt?

I have a p4 HT 3.2 1mb cache. 1gig ram. and the x1800xt.

Anyone know whats up? Could it be the processor that is letting the card down? I know pentuim is not so good with ATI but the score seems very poor.

Your CPU will be one of the problems alright. Pentiums are known to be rather slow in benchmarking/gaming. I would'nt worry about it too much its only a benchamark. As long as your games are ticking along nicely then all is in order.

King.

To be honest, I think that is about right mate. Is the P4 @ stock ? Basically is everything at stock speeds?

Pretty good if they are...

Sounds about right then mate. Try overclocking the card and see where you get from there...

Can you overclock the P4 any? What motherboard are you using?

It will be the CPU. Just make sure everything is set to performance, rather than quality..... but my X1800XT at stock with a 2.7ghz opty gives almost 9.5k.
Defo the cpu.

3D Mark 01 is defo more of a system benchmark... but everything goes through the CPU, so there comes a time when even a heavily GPU based benchmark becomes bottled by the cpu :)

Well I tried testing 3d mark 05 again and made sure AA+AF were off and closed all apps. I also installed omega drivers and the score I got was 718X. I tried overclocking the card and changed the speeds from stock (600/700) to 640/800... And the 3d mark 05 score 7197. A increase of 10 points... So if overclocking the video card doesn't give better performance I guess this means it's 100% the CPU's fault?

Stock 3D speed on the X1800XT is 625/750, 600/700 is the 2D speed. So that is not such a big overclock.
Using ATI Tool, you could try setting your fan at 100% (just for testing), up your vcore to maybe 1.425v and try an overclock of say 680/850 (My memory seems good til about 870/880 at stock volts and it has been suggested it will go higher by slightly underclocking it).

If this doesn't give you better results, then I guess it would confirm the fact that the CPU is the limiting factor.

I managed to get a fraction under 10k in 3DMark05 while playing around with my X1800XT, but couldn't save it online for some reason. I seemed to have difficulty cracking the 10,000 barrier, so maybe it is my Pentium-M starting to throttle when it gets to that point. Got just under 19,000 on 3DMark03.
