According to Sapphire's specifications, their x1900 and X1950 cards have Video In as well as Video Out.

Does anyone know how this works please? There's nothing in the manual.

What I really want to know is, can the cards be used to digitize analogue video from external sources?

That is how it works (not sure about specific cards though). You normally have a 'dongle' which has composite and s-video in and composite and s-video out. Drivers with the card allow you to import video into video capture applications, and encode it into mpeg, avi,... video. This work is normally done by the CPU.

I have an Nvidia 7900GTO, and it also apparently offers this feature with its dongle , but other than the card in the device manager there are no other devices - and media capture apps wont see any capture devices. So i was also wondering , any tips ?

I am using the CD drivers and all the proper gear and software.

I think the MSI 7900 GTOs were mis-advertised as having VIVO - I think it is video out only. There was a thread on it, have a search in this forum.

*Edit*

Just found some threads about the 7900GTO for anyone who is interested, and it seems this post sums it all up:
