I currently have a softmodded Radeon 9800SE AIW which is a bit long in the tooth. The dilemma is with the current great prices on ATI cards do I dive in now and get an X1900XT or do I hang fire for DX10 cards to be Vista ready??? Thoughts please.

Id get an x1900 XT now, as then you can miss out the R600/G80 and get the next lot of faster cards when theres actually something using DX10, and its worth having, which is probs about a year away or longer yet, and a years a long time in graphcs cards, a load will have come and gone by then. :)

Porobably worth paying the extra as the HIS is a cracking card, and the coolers excellent on it, very quiet, or you could wait a couple of weeks for the x1950 which has the same cooler on it. ;)

Now that is a good idea, my Viewsonic monitor is only capable of 1280*1024 so the x1800 would be more than fast enough, shame the only 512MB model is more expensive than the X1900XT though.

Why do you want 512MB?

At your resolution it really makes no difference to performance in any games. :)

Go with the X1800 XT 256MB its an unbeatable bargain. :)

I haven't been keeping an eye on things in the gfx card realm since I got my 7800GT.

When's the proposed launch dates for G80/R600 + will they be DX10 capable?

Googled R600 and I get really old news!

In games like cod2, the extra 512mb make a hell of a difference especially if you play with AA and AF. I have just upgraded form a 7800gtx 256mb to a 7900gtx and the chopiness has gone.

i personally would have waited till the x1950 came out...but thats just me

Yeah but either x1800/x1900/x1950 is gona last till DX10 is being used more, so he can get a DX10 card, so may as well get the cheapest. :)

Will Windows Vista run short changed on a DX9 card instead of DX10? When DX10 cards are out?

Yeah, but we all know theres gona be no point in that if his x1800 or whatever is hammering through his games maxed out, if hes getting say 80+, anyone can play games at 80+, so why bother with a £400 card to get say 90+, may as well just get the £150 card and happily game at 80+ than spend £400 to do 90+. :D
