Hi all, picked up a limited edition 1.1ns X1950GT 512mb last week, ended up costing me £64.99 as the place i bought it from took in my old 7600GS as trade in :).

anyway got it all installed and have been playing with the clocks after bedding it in a bit at stock, frequencies a have reached so far are 615mhz core and 1615mhz memory, this was by setting Ati tray tools to find optimums. havent tried these in a benchmark environment yet, but ran ran '03, '05 and '06 this morning at 600/1550mhz and got the following

'03 - 15629
'05 - 9823
'06 - 4448

at these clocks, C&C 3 on ultra settings runs at 35+ fps, TDU at 32+ fps with HDR and 6xAA and 16xAF on High settings and DIRT demo on mid settings runs at around 30+ fps (inside view) outside ranges from 23-28fps .

System is 3200+ A64 @2.5ghz, 1gb DDR400 Geil on an RDX200

considering this whole system stands me at less than £200 cash value still......Im laughin :D

Cheers for the replies, on the C&C front i was just goin from what FRAPS says....that inaccurate sometimes?, ive just double checked and should apologise, as the settings were set to a combo of high/ultra, shading/shadows were not on ultra which seems to have a huge impact :( 18-22 fps

CPU is a single Venice core yeah.

and the ram should be rated up to 1.8ghz or so im told, i have just installed some Coolermaster ramsinks on the card so gonna see if they help at all as stock the card didnt have any cooling on the rear memory modules.

Card is pretty damn quiet, the cooler is a zalman style affair and is pretty beasty, works very well from what i can tell, and its dropped the temp of my northbridge next to it by 4 degrees too lol

Boogle- I should mention im running in an XP Pro environment, and the 2900 series is well known to have issues with AA and AF, Willhub on here was playing TDU at the same time and getting around 45-50+ on the same settings with his OC'd 8800GTS, so im dont think im exaggerating :). would have thought you would be running as quick as his 8800 :(

Overclocking wise, im just using ATi Tray Tools. ATi Tool seemed to crash if i change any frequencies, i have heard it does have some issues with the X1950 tho.

yep indeedy 500mhz stock :)

The XT is a rocket ship even compared to the GT/PRO you will not be disapointed :). Im gonna make the most of my RDX200 asap and buy a second intentical card for Crossfire, can get hold of one for £79 from a friend of mine :)

Tbf mate, im nearly 25 and get the same way when new stuff turns up, gonna be bouncing off the walls when i order second card, x2 cpu and new PSU lol

lolol. im getting married next December so im saving hard for that now which means im curbing my plans for a uber pc and going with a budget beast and deposit on a house of my own. My whole rig stands at less than £200 atm the moment. Where my better half loves that i have a hobby and it interests me so much " im gonna spend £250 on a CPU hun" most likely wouldn't go down too well me thinks lol. the cpu, gfx card and psu look to set me back £150 quid tops so that aint gonna be too bad :) and will produce quite a beasty machine for a £350 budget.

Reckon i can squeeze some extra out of the card with a bit of additional cooling, so gonna see what i can rig up hehe. Will make sure i keep you posted.

Hey mate, ive been over at my fiancee's house all weekend, it was her parents 25th wedding anniv party so havent had any time to touch pc hehe.

Just looking at your sig, i had exactly the same card until January when i switched to PCI-E, where you get your 6800 from out of curiousity as it has almost identical specs to my old one, not the bay was it???

Ben

hehe sweet, identical card to my old AGP one :). had mine running at 405/905 on 12pipes in 5 shaders, was a great little card and totally trounced the 9800 PRO i had before it :)

My 6800 ran like a bag of spanners until i upgraded my psu too, they are hungry lil boogers, as are the X1950's. my GT clocked runs fine on a 380w enermax tho :). so your new corsair should be perfect, im kinda looking at a 600 watt version for when i go crossfire, but been offered a 580 Type-R for a very tasty price :)

Ben

I dont know if to take the "they go boom" to heart really, i know loads of people that have had them for years and have worked fine.....may well get an OCZ stealthstream 600w or summin just incase hehe

cheers for the memory reply, just thinking, the card may not be performing at this 100% optimum is the 380w struggles with max OC or summin, intend to hopefully invest in the new PSU if i get enough for my bday cash wise.....My 6800 gained 1.5k in 3dm 03 when i swapped PSU and clocked an extra 20 mhz !

yeah found that was the case, where the PSU may have the system up n running, it may still be struggling at full power espec. on overclock to provide the ampage/wattage continuously despite having good rails etc, simply cos it cant muster up the output

i reckon my 380w Enermax is kinda at the most it can safely do with the x1950 lightly clocked, but he higher clocks prove a bit too much.

will try the theory when i get new PSU, but was tru of my 6800

i installed 7.5 from the ATi site soon as i got the card and it overclocked straight off...the non overclocking problems are kinda weird, people say that the sapphires are the worst for it, espec. the Ultimate edition where only the bundled drivers oc the card and give you the 1600mhz mem speed.

I installed 7.6 couple of days back and its seems to clock slightly better and is more stable :). All my OC'ing was done in ATi Tray tools.

My card is a Colorful (Chinese co.) card, and is the X1950 GT (PRO) Ltd Edition. I got mine from a guy im friendly with who is the main uk distributor for them, obiviously cant say much more than that as its breaking forum rules. but i think the card is a non ATi reference design. seems to work a treat as it overclocks like no ones business :)

you've got the extra 12 pixel pipelines too, which should make quite a difference of how many pixels the old girl can shift too :)
