Hello all,

In 2 weeks time i am purchasing a new graphics card to go on my new system which will be a e6300 core 2 duo with 1gb pc 5300 ram. I play my pc on my 32" hdtv so i use resolution 1360 x 768. I am upgrading to play upcoming games such as Vanguard which im in beta for and runs terrible on my old system. Which of thses graphics cards do people recommend either a 512mb Ati X1950 pro or a 512mb Nvidia 7950 Gt, both these cards seem to be around the same price mark so im confused by which to get. If there are others cards around the same price mark i havent hightlighted please let me know. Thanks all in advance. ( im not into overclocking)

PCI-E Cards,

7600 GS (£69) , 7600 GT (£100) , 7900 GS (£110) , x1950 Pro (£125) , x1950 XT (£170) , 8800 GTS (£290) , 8800 GTX (£375) .

Depending on how much you want to spend - obviously the more you spend, the more you get.

I'd also consider 2GB of RAM for games these days as the minimum/standard. Some games take a real hit without it.

what is the difference between the x1950 pro and the xt version. I know the pro has 512mb which im told is better for higher resoultions so would that be better considering the resolution id be using.

12 Pixel shaders and about £55.

Higher resolutions is higher than that. 256 will be fine. Not played that game, maybe ask in the PC Games forum what to use to play that at minimum 25 fps. I would have thought that a x1950 Pro would put in a fine performance, but I couldn't quantify that in terms of minimum fps, sorry.

If you want to future proof get a 512MB. 256MB isn't going to be able to handle DX10 games as well. I'm goin for a 512MB!

err..... X1950pro isnt DX10 capable..... so it wont be able to handle the games at all in either flavour!

dx 9 cards can play with all the gfx (cept some shaders and stuff) on a dx 10 game. Just wont be as fast as say a 8800 dedicated dx10 card.

Edit - I mean i fully expect to be able to play crysis when its out, just at medium or low details and no aa or af. If i still plan moving to a x1950pro 512mb

Very soon i guess as Nvidia are preparing it now, see this thread :)
I don't mean to rain on your parade, but you do know this "story" originated at VR-Zone right? And that Nvidia haven't confirmed it?

You seem to know a lot more about this card than anyone on the planet, including wether or not it actually exists (never mind when it's coming out.)
