x1950 or x1650 on a 250w PSU?

Lovely Wolver-ampton!
Was just about to buy one of these cards but thought about the power consumption.

My SFF system has a 250w "uprated" PSU. Will this be sufficient to power one of the above cards?

Currently running a 6600GT and had no problems.

I think the most they will draw is 66W.
You need to post make/model of PSU or just the rated current on the +12V rail in Amps(A). The x1950Pro requires something like 26A but thats probably an OTT guideline. Post what you have.
7600GT may be a better (and cheaper) choice if your PSU isn't up to it.

No idea on make or brand - assume it's a generic no-name jobby. It's only small, as it's built into the Biostar SFF case I have.

Is there some software that will tell me what the current is on the +12v rail without going all technical or using a multimeter?

I'd say no, your asking too much. Maybe if it was one of those shuttle ones but otherwise it will probably have problems, not sure it'd do any harm to have a go and see if its unstable or not

A 6600gt is a great card, the pro is more then twice as powerfull and though its efficent it will use a lot more electric

I personally think it should be ok, most SSF power supplies (from the bigger brands, like Shuttle and Biostar) tend to be of a very high quality.

How many amps is that ? My physics fails me :o

nm, got it I think

Converting Watts to Amps

The conversion of Watts to Amps is governed by the equation Amps = Watts/Volts

For example 12 watts/12 volts = 1 amp

So for the peak 3d figures, thats 1.4A, 2.5A & 1A for the GTS, times it by the difference of the pro and its roughly 7A overall?

Probably not a X1950, but you might have some luck with a 2600 Pro or something, as their power draw's quite small, they should perform a bit better than a 7600 GS.

The 8600gts is apparently border line for not needing anything above the slot power.

Seems a rare example of this card being a good choice so I'd use that as an excuse to get one but the figures for the x1950pro dont look so bad, depends what else is drawing power at the same time I guess.

A spec sig could have been usefull here :p
