Hi All,

I've currently got FX53 (stock), A8V (AGP) mobo and a stock Asus X800XTPE. This rig has done me fine (and still does), however I've just bought a Dell 3007 FP and of course I need a dual link card to drive it at max res.

With true AMD quad coming later in the year and price cuts ahead & new Intel stuff coming I don't want to junk my existing rig completely (I know I will have to at some point).

So how much of a step up is a 1950 (AGP) over my X800? I know I'm not going to be able to game at 2560x1600 without moving CPU/SLI most likely but is it 2x,3x,4x as good?

The alternative is to get say A8N32-SLI and stick an 8800gtx in and run with this till later in the year and then when I swap to a new platform then most likely either add another 8800 or sell up and get 8900/R600 whatever.

I'm making the assumption that my FX53 will not be good enough for 8800SLI? I'm not against having a bash at overclocking it if it would make enough of a difference.

Any thoughts.

Cheers All

I'd have thought the 1950pro would be fine to drive the 3007 - just not in games at native res obviously!

The option of pci-e mobo / 8800 is better one if you want to game at 2560 x 1600 but even then I think a single 8800 might start to feel the strain with high settings and the like enabled - even so 1920 x 1200 would still be a nice res to game at and keep settings high :)

Of course what i'm saying could be codswallop as i dont have either a 3007 or an 8800 ... but it can't that far from the truth!
