Hi im thinking of getting into the x range of games but am unsure whether to play x2 before getting x3 or just to go for x3??
Any help would be great, cheers guys.

Rob

Depends on your system specs really, If you have a fairly decent spec PC then I'd go for X3, just remember to install the latest patches or it can run like a dog.

There is no real need to have played X2 to understand the story line in X3, to be honest the story line is the worst part about the x games imho. But if it interests you, you could always get X2 and X3 (you can get both from steam for $29.95 which is a bit of a bargain).

If you do decide to get either, I would recommend that you download them via steam. Although X2 has an official no-cd patch, X3 retail doesn't and can be a pain as it uses starforce... However the steam version doesn't, automatically patches itself and is exactly the same as the dvd version and you can use all the mods and scripts.

In Q4 2006 EGOSOFT will release a final update to X³: Reunion under the title X³: 2.0 Bala Gi Research Missions.
Key features of this update will include:

* An exciting mission to unlock a unique new spacecraft and get hold of the biggest construction in the X universe to-date.
* Get hold of the exclusive (and unique) M7 class prototype battleship, once owned by the Pontifex Maximus Paranidia himself. This ship is lean and mean and can dock two fighter ships.
* The Player Headquarters can only be built once, but will be the most powerful outpost that the player can own. With its massive storage capacity it can hold huge quantities of upgrades, repair and produce ships, and host more ships at its docks than any other station, even shipyards.
* Bala Gi Research Inc. has developed a new M3+ class of ships. You will get the chance to distribute the blueprints for this new masterpiece of ship construction to the various shipyards.

There will also be a number of little extras like a new weapon type, sectors and various other additions and fixes. The update will also no longer require the game media to be present, so you can put your CD or DVD back in its box.

sweet sounds like fun! Its good to see that the developer has decided yet again to take away the copy protection, I wish many more would do that!

I'm guessing that its gonna be some sort of intergration with steam patch, so you have to have an internet connection to play the game (or atleast register it with steam etc).

Get X2 first, im playing it now 1/2 way through.
complete the missions THEN get X3 as it continues over from X2

I found X3 easy to get into then X2, even though X3 lacked any kind of tutorial.

Think it's mostly down to the fact that you start off in a M4 rather then a M5, and I've always been a pirate capper :p

I was lucky to not really get into X3, probably down to having it at release and suffering all the bugs. I had a nice factory setup but some pirates took out all the freighters and I couldn't be bothered to replace them.

X2 though, extremely addicted to that. Was a good game ;) You would get to a point where you have a sector filled with tens of stations with a single purpose: Produce equipment for your fleet of destroyers.

Then once you had a fleet of destroyers with the best equipment around, you would just turn up into a sector and wipe it out completely. Xenon, Paranid, Split - made no different they all fell to my might :D And the great thing is you're equipment is free, and you're getting millions of credits each day so your fleet is basically infinite in size. You have carriers loaded with luxury M3s, massive destroyer fleets, patrol ships protecting your interests, and so on. Glorious game.

X3 looks even better, just never got into it :\

That's what I plan on doing.. that Argon One has my name on it dammit. As does the Teladi Phoenix etc. etc. etc.

Gonna take a while.. only got the one ship and 500k atm and trading is slooooow for now.
