X360 pad on Win7 - lockups?!

Hi there

I recently upgraded my home machine what's shown in the spec (new CPU, motherboard and RAM) along with Win7 64. I also bought a wired 360 pad to play some games with. After playing Gears of War for half an hour, the machine totally locked up - the reset switch didn't even do anything! I've now had it happen several times: complete freezes, with the sound still going.
At first I thought my overclock was a bit dodgy so in the end reset it to stock, yet still freezing. Temps look fine, voltages look fine.
However I've not yet managed to lock it up when playing with mouse and keyboard! I've tried different ports, powered/unpowered hubs, rumble on and off yet it'll still crash sometimes after only a minute of play.
I've tried other games with the pad yet no drama there...but maybe I've not tested enough.

Has anyone else seen similar behavior? I ran all these games fine with my A64 X2 and WinXP! (no pad though).

Cheers

You seem to have tried most things...

Does the PC crash when using the controller with other games - it may be GoW specific?

If it was GoW specific, if you haven't done so already, download the latest patch. If you have done this already it may just be a quirk/conflict yet to be ironed out with GoW and Win 7.

Look for driver updates - but i suspect Win 7 would have covered that. (and try the above - post)

I use a wirless 360 pad for a driving sim - and, so far, I haven't experienced any problems.

Yo, I'll be trying these suggestions out tonight! I'm also gonna be lugging a laptop home from work to do a kernel debug to see if there's anything coming out right before it crashes.
I'm still shocked that the machine can lock up so badly that the reset switch doesn't work :(

Guh I just brought my work laptop home (even went back to pick up the firewire cable) and doing a kernel debug from the laptop's all hunky dorey. I break out GoW and it realises that a debugger is attaches and refuses to run! Come on!
