These are a bargain. The only thing that is stopping me getting one is the lack of Pixel shader 3.0 support. I have migrated over to PCI-e and need a card, a voice in my head is telling me 6800 GT PCI-e, 'cos it's got pixel shader 3.0 support.

erm... i could be wrong here but im fairly certain it has Pixel shader 3.0 support, i know of older graphics cards than this support pixel shader 3.0

hmmm... if it doesnt support pixel shader 3.0 then what the hells ATI using on this? the technicle details are sorely lacking all over the web...

is an arctic cooler going to be needed on this ? if your not bothered about the noise like me (i own a system with 120mm akasa case fan pushing a few thousand cubic feet a minute) cant i just turn the fans up a touch...

well my radeon 9800pro i fitted with ram sinks and an arctic cooler as the cooler that came with them was to be honest awful! :P tiny bit of allow with a crappy plastic bit pretending to be a fan... but the gto2`s seem to have abit more to them in the cooling department... ah well, i will run it without first and see what the temps are like...

Be interesting to know what kind of results you get with the Arctic Cooler - I can't make up my mind between the Arctic Cooler and the Zalman, so am going to be running mine with stock HSF for a few weeks. Once I'm sure that it's a good'un I'll be looking to irreversibly void my warranty by uprating the HSF. I take it that the Arctic Cooler ATI-5 is the one to go for, since the GTO2 is basically a dumbed down X850 card.

Cheers,

theres quite a good review of this over at ******** ive had to add dots in to get it to display... i dont get it ? its not a swear word and they dont sell products...

they dont sell products so im hoping its ok to link to this ? :/ if not i am sorry in advance...

EDIT: whenever i try to link to this it blocks out the word ********** ???

Please don't try to bypass the word filter, it's there for a reason.

Have you unlocked the additional 4 pipes, or simply overclocked the core and memory. Your score seems a little low if you are running 16 pipe at 560/610. You should be over 6000 points in 3DMark05.

i dont have a floppy drive to unlock them with... ;)

Hey.
They are saying to have the media writable so that you can backup you GPU's current BIOS and put it back on if the flash goes a bit awry.

You can put your CD rom as a boot device by entering your BIOS by pressing a function key or setup (it will tell you which if you read the screen quickly when the black and white stuff comes up before windows starts).

In the bios will be some section that says Boot order or something.

Put your CD drive infront of your Hard drive in the list.

That way, the PC will say, press Space to boot from disk if it sees a disk in the drive before starting windows.

i was more refferring to making the cd bootable i.e. it boots to the cd, runs a batch file and flshes the bugger on its own :) but thanks for the info at least. incidentally, i can download the cards standard bios from tech power up, this should be ok shouldnt it ?

Hear what your saying but taking the side off your pc and attaching a floppy drive only to flash your card wouldn't be that much of a chore surely?
It's definatley worth it. :)
That bios should be ok, its the one I had as a back-up

its a chore when ive got to hike 4 miles to the nearest pc shop, (named after that which happens when the moon covers the sun) and then pray it actually works when i get it home... :)

Wamz, i do not see the point on that...

Just to get a "fancy" name under windows instead of x800/850 series card?

If it gave me the extra 10/20mhz that i wanted!

:D

Im not really mad. Im dissapointed. Every other card seems to get well past the 510mhz. This has a lot do to with the fact that in all my life with computers i've had always the worst luck when coming to overclocking components! Always "crap" pieces.

Example: a 2600+ barton that would hit is max @ 180 fsb...

my names Gak, woe is me, i can only get X850XTPE speeds out of my X800GTO2, i think im going to go and kill myself... ;) :P

be happy. you get 510 on core, i get 550, some get 490 somone got 618... the point is your above stock X850XTPE speeds and your cards far from bad when it comes to overclocking... :)

TIME TO WET MYSELF.... :D it worked it worked it worked.... sorry for being so excited but its the first time in a long time that ive got something for nothing from my pc!!

GPU clock 530 mem clock 600 and the X850 mod (when i finally grew a pair of balls and tried it... 3dmark05 5734 :D

now true this isnt the golden 6000 i was hoping for but im hopeful with a little more tweaking, im also considering trying the omega drivers, i hear some people have had good results with these...

p.s. ive created a bootable DVD image using windows 98 boot disk files and have injected the flash files needed into it. if anyone would like it its 2mb, you just need to go to nero, select bootable dvd from the wizard, select the location of the file i send you, then burn it (it shows nothing in the file browser but dont worry, it works fine.
