X800 GTO2 Thread, post your mods and clocks here.

im not gonna bother myself Rab, the core never seems to get above 60oC and the stock coolers on these are the same as the X850XTPE :) buty in answer to your question... shouldnt be too hard.

your opteron wont improve your 3dmark score, what temps is the card running at? its good for up to 120 degree, people on here have reported temps of 60 to 85oC

locutus12, I was right, a faster CPU will make a difference to my 3dmark05 score. I just clocked my Venice up to 2.2Ghz and at 510/609 I got 6210 :D Now I'm really excited about the Opty, will hopefully clock a lot higher than 2.2Ghz!

are you running the CPU tests in 3dmark 05 ? they have squat to do with your available graphics power and shouldnt be ran, the only tests you should be running are the 3dmark game tests. maybe i should rephrase what i originally said, a faster CPU over what you originally had has no effect on your available graphics power. also try dropping your memory to 580 or so and pushing the core up, the GPU speed adds far more to your 3dmark score per available mhz than your memory and at 600 + on the memory it may be causing artifacts in ati tool and giving you the impression that the GPU cant go higher...

This is not actually true.

Try running a GTX with an AXP and then an A64. You'll see a considerable difference in scores, even if the CPU tests aren't run.

The latest GPU's are bottlenecked by the CPU, which needs to feed it data to render, and would gladly soak up any more CPU horsepower you could throw at them.

read what i typed. " a faster CPU over what you originally had"

he already had a good enough 64bit cpu, it wont make a blind bit of difference going from the chip he had to the chip hes got, and in any case thats half a dozen posts back, why bring it up...

Notice the pillar and wall behind it, the edges look jagged, I have also noted this on TOCA RD2, the crash barriers also have this type of edge, I am running 6x16, I had a x800xtpe a few weeks ago, and noticed the same thing, is this an ATI trait?

this was more down to me ballsing up my radlinker settings as i discovered later that night when i got into Battlefield 2... jagged edge city... the card can run the games without jagged edges and in true time honoured ATI tradition outperforms its Nvidia equivelant most of the time when AA and AF are used.

If he can get an extra 200+Mhz out of an A64/Opteron system, it will make a difference to his 3DMark score.

Running the CPU tests doesn't make any difference to your final (3DMark) score btw. The only reason not to run them would be to save time.

make your mind up... :)

most people run overclocks in asynchronous so even if he overclocks it wont push his card unless he syncs it up in which case it could become unstabel. ive been told on here many many times already by various people that running the CPU tests wont make a blind bit of difference to your 3dmark score.

as for the guys CPU, he already had a 64bit CPU before he went to the FX chip, again it wont make any difference to his overall available graphics power.

im glad the mods worked for so many people... i might start doing these full time for various cards... it mainly came about because the flash system preferes dos and as youl all know windows Neaderthal Technology, Windows 2000BC and Windows XPonme dont have dos :) (thank god...) so the ISO just seemed logical :)

plus i didnt see why modding should only be for the technically minded geeks like me. i dont see why people should be restricted from buying a bargain just because they either wouldnt know how to or were a little frightened of modding it (like i was lol )

I've got my GTO² running at 530/630 so far and it hasn't yet broken 62ºC with the fan running at 55% speed. How far should I be able to actually go with this card?

Update: Just been experimenting and the core ceiling seems to be ~540 for me before artifacts start appearing, I'm going to leave it on 530.

drop the memory then try upping the core again, you may find its the memory artifacting :) its better to be able to get as much as possible out of your core speed as this gives the greater performance boost. i dropped my memory down from 600 to 580 and the core went up to 560 without any troubles :)

so i was at GPU535 and MEM605 with a 3dmark score of 5850 and now im at GPU560 / MEM580 with a 3dmark score of 6250 :)

the stock cooler on the GTO 2 is used on the X850XTPE cards so really you shouldnt need a new cooler, what you could do is remove the cooler, clean off the generic cooling grease and apply some arctic silver 5, better yet if you know how you could lap the areas of the heatsink that come into contact with the memory as these are relatively unfinished areas.

the gto2 cooler is a single slot thing where as the xtpe has a 2 slot cooler which is much better.
SEE HERE

my mistake, its the same cooler as on the X850Pro cards,
"It's immediately clear that the X800 GTO² 256MB card conforms with the PCB design and general layout of ATI's high-end cards. The cooler is identical to that found on a reference Radeon X850 Pro." - Hex**.net

it still begs the question of why youd bring that up, i really do dislike people that try to be a smart alleck. as ive said before, buying a new cooler for this card defeats the object. none of you should be getting temps above 80oC unless your really straining the card. im at 55oC under load, at 540 580 with 6200 3d05 marks. this should be more than enough for anyone with this card. adding coolers to it destroys the value for money aspect, you may as well of got a 7800GT.

Hi all!
This is my first (second now after moving..;)) post here.. Wohoo! :D
Well.. down to business..:
After reading about the GTO2 cards for a while, I decided to get one.. Unfortunatly, by the time I got to ordering one, the card was sold out here in Norway.. :(
Of course I was very disappointed, but didn't give up..!
After searching the net, I came across another card with the same specs..(1.6 ns mem, and R480 core) I'm talking about the HIS Radeon X800 GTO IceQ II Turbo..
What du you think guys (and gals..?) ? Could this also be a candidate for modification with the right bios..?
Hopefully this is a possibility, as I've already ordered one... In any case, it's a very good overclocker!

if you cant find a sapphire GTO2 then the only other GTO maker that might unlock is the Connect 3d GTO. no one but sapphire makes the GTO 2 despite the label of "HIS Radeon X800 GTO IceQ II Turbo"

its not just the specs though its the circuit layout and how the GPU has been altered. if the HIS card has had its pipelines cut on the GPU, youl never be able to unlock them regardless of what you do. also the GTO 2 uses exactly the same printed circuit board and component layout as the X850XTPE and the same cooler as the X850 Pro. and to this day the only GTO`s that have modded are some of the Connect3D GTO cards and all of the sapphire GTO2 cards.

given no ones mentioned the unlocking of any HIS cards i would say it was a safe bet that it doesnt unlock.

Around here it tops @ 510/550~560.

****** crap card.

ok, you are really starting to get annoying. youve post on several occasions in this thread about how bad your card is and each time youve been told what you have is good enough. so you didnt get the fastest GTO2, so you didnt get XTPE speeds, NIETHER DID I! what you got is a card that mods to give a 30% increase in performance MINIMUM, most of the GTO2`s seem to settle happily at X850PRO speeds anyway. only an idiot would call the clocks that you have, crap.

Now stop trashing what has been an excellent range of cards and a damn good value for money deal. and another thing, edit your post, the last time i didnt edit out a swear word completely i got banned for 2 days.
