They're not bad cars. I ran a couple of new shape one a few years back and whilst they wouldn't win any prizes for the quality of the dash plastic they are comfortable, ride very well and handle much the same as a 306. I had no reliability problems with either of them.

The only downside of the 2 you picked is the 1.8 engine can be a bit thirsty.

a pug 306 for all intents and purposes but a more modern, and some would say less popular, design.

nice car, the HDI diesel is a good budget car and the VTS is really good.
Fox was considering one at one point IIRC, draw from that what you will :D

Good motors and generally get glossed over if remembered at all during 'spec me a car threads'. I was considering a VTS a few years back, but for one reason and another didn't go for it.

Not bad cars, I was considering one as my first car a while back. You can get a newer Xsara than the equivalent 306 et al because the looks are a little bland. Good car for the money.

are you having trouble with the name of these cars? :p

It's 'Xsara'. Pronounced 'zara'

anyway, pretty good cars all things considered, and excellent value. Personally I couldn't live with the bug eye styling of the facelift model, but the older one I actually quite like.

VTS is basically a 306 GTi6 but with a 5 speed box.

ive got a 2001 LX 1.4, had it for 6 months so far no problems :)

Not to bad then. I'm getting 28 out of the golf and don't wont to go any lower. Is the normal 1.8 even higher?

It varys, have a look on the Parkers website, it's fairly easy to use :p

Saying that, Parkers has my 147 dows as 31 & I never get much over 27.5 so I wouldn't take it as gospel.

Click on "Reviews" from the front page, and then click the "Technical data" search button. Even a noob should have managed that :D :p

Damn straight :p
