XB1/PS4 anyone gone all digital?

Only major release I got digital was Titanfall, bought off the US store.

But for now sticking to disc as I can trade in after I get bored/finished them. Plus as people have mentioned the prices on xbox live are stupid.

When it makes sense I buy digital. Got Fifa 14 for £20 on release day. I game share with my brother to cut costs so we both get digital access to Ghosts, Battlefield 4 premium dlc, Fifa 14, killer instinct, Titan Fall and plants vs zombies. Otherwise digital is way too expensive.

Hopefully this generation will at least gradually see prices lower, especially external storage support just around the corner for xbone. Good thing too with games for gold starting in June.. my hard drive will be full up soon!

So far i've only got digital games on my XB1, the fast switching between games is one of the features i like.

Forza 5 was free with the console, BF4 & DR3 i bought from the store. I bought £50 cash cards for just over £40 to buy the games.

Games i know i'll be playing for a long time i'll get via digital, others i'll probably buy on disc so i can sell on when i'm done with them.

I don't understand that, it's like they want people to keep trading in games. you can get watchdog codes online for the pc for half the price of the ps and xbox online stores

There are some significant reasons why the PC can be so much cheaper. No licensing to the console manufacturer, several digital store fronts and CD Keys that are purchased from other regions at a far cheaper price and then resole out of that region in such a manner that allows for significant discounts to be applied, but are not always 'officially' supported.

Sony, MS et all have walled gardens where they can control the release of codes and prices (i.e. region locking on virtual points). For example, why codes tend to be the same price no matter where you buy them.

However I think that if digital purchase were a higher proportion of the market or 100% used by those customers then you would likely see a more aggressive pricing structure even if new releases would probably still be higher than people want to ideally pay.

Think we've seem this maturing of digital store fronts from all since they were launched on the older consoles (Wii/360/PS3).

That's part of the problem really, both PSN & XBL are relatively closed shops when it comes to digital downloads.

With the PC you've got retailers competing with each other, until MS & Sony allow digital download codes to be sold independantly (e.g. in the same way as your CD-key sites) that won't change

They don't, but they're also constantly having to balance it against not alienating their many, many retail partners. As it is now, if someone wants the game they'll either buy it from a retailer (physical or online) or if they're impatient they'll pay the extra for the download. Either way a game is sold, but with the download the publisher gets some extra money out of it. The profit margin on downloads will be huge compared to a retail copy.

This confuses me somewhat... surely you cannot play the same game on both consoles at the same time by doing this?

But becuase the codes are through one distributor only they are far more controlled and therefore no (to little) difference in price than buying from PSN or other retailers selling PSN codes. Code are fixed in price and region locked.

This is specifically not what happens with PC code reselling. There are both authorised (GMG etc.) and unauthorised (in the main CD Key websites) resellers who can, for different reasons, undercut the prices on the digital store (i.e. Steam) and therefore be cheaper than buying directly from that digital store.

You can and we do play those games online together. I dont know if I lost my intrenet wether I could play those games but most of them are online shooters anyhow! :)

I've got Titanfall and just got Wolfenstien digital - mainly because I can get them cheaper from the US store than I can find them here. In the shops Wolfy is $100 - might be able to find it for $90, but online from the US it's less than $70 (35 quid) including exchange fees.

I've never really exchanged games and as someone said, you don't get anything in the physical box. Also, not having to switch CDs is definitely a benefit. So all in it makes sense for me.

Still don't get this... surely to play your games, he has to have your gamertag signed in on his console? So how can you play the same game at the same time?

I dont want to get in trouble now OCUK dont want us to talk about it but it was pretty similar throughout xbox 360's history so Im sure google will be your friend.

My main concern with digital games is how long will you have them available ? I got steam and various games on xbox and ps3 that are digital , but will they be available to me in 10 years time ?

the golden era of gaming ...80/90's you have been able to get in various formats either on disc of digitally . But you sometimes have to pay twice to get the same games as they are no longer supported on certain platforms.

For instance .. I just picked up midway arcade origins on disc for ps3 . this was more or less available on ps1 and ps2 ( and xbox ) , and ive had to re-purchase these games on disc format . I don't think there is a digital version . And capcoms classics is another example , but they have now broek that up into 3 game segments ....but how long will that be available ? I should be able to own these on ps+ network imo if I can prove I have had them in the past on playstation . they are the same game

i'd love to go all digital, but console games on PSN are still too expensive.. Watch dogs, £59.99? No thank you, that is just too expensive..

That really irritated me as well when I saw that, that price is ridiculous. It's almost a middle finger up to the psn store and what Sony are trying to achieve in general because at least other publishers are trying to encourage digital adoption through reasonable, competitive prices.

nope, main reason is my 2 meg internet with no signs of any bt fibre or virgin in my area, another reason is the cost and the fact you cant sell it after.
