Hi all.

My 360 can not read any disk now and i got in 14/3/2008 so i can'i send it back i think to MS :(

What be the best way to fix this problem or how much does a new drive cost from ms one where i don't have to flash it cause never done that before.

Thanks for any help.

I had a problem where the 360 draw wouldnt open sometimes, when it did it either wouldnt read discs or threw up disc errors while playing. MS sorted it under warranty and the service was pretty good.

MS extended the warranty to three years, though I believe that technically only applies to Red Ring errors.

However, I had a similar happen with the DVD twice, outside of the 1 year original warranty and they replaced it both times, so its worth calling them.

my dvd drive gradually degraded until it would hardly read any xbox discs. as my console is a good few years old i just bought a new drive off an auction site, opened up the console, removed the old drive, swapped the controllers, poped the new one in and job done!
of course going down this root will void the warranty as you've opened the console, and you have to make sure you get the same make/model replacement drive so that the controllers will swap ok, but you do get the satisfaction of a job well done :D

Yeah i was thinking of fixing my self but i read some where about flashing the drive and i never done that before so that was a no no lol

But after watching a few vids on youtube all i seem to need to do is remove the green bit of board from the drive and put on the new and everything should work fine.

And as my warranty ran out i think this mite be the better option.

Cheers

I would speak to MS first before voiding your warranty as at the minute you are still covered for almost another 2 years for the RROD and E74 error which are quite common and could happen so its worth having!

Let us know what they say.

MS said no no go away sort of thing lol :(

SO opened the 360 up and its the benq spindle motor thats not spinning :(

I looked around can seem to buy just the spindle hub and motor :(

So i guess i have to buy another benq disk drive.

But i do have a questing i know i can take the old board from 1 disk and put on another but i need solder the wires :(

But if i flash it instead will that get me banned for xbox live at all ?

Thanks

Aslong as you flash it with original firmware and not hacked firmware then you will be fine, just read the firmware from your broken drive then dump it onto your new drive and job done :)

Just swapped my old hitachi rubbish that died with a new benq one, easy enough to flash and copy the keys to it so it spoofs and the drive works fine. Official drive.

How much better are Benq drives in comparison to Hitachis?

Just bought a new Hitachi (old one has a broken laser I think , It wouldn't read games and made a grinding noise) off the bay and I'm gonna switch the PCBs over.

Do I need to do anything else other than switch the PCBs ?

Surely switching a PCB is easier than going through all the hassle of flashing a drive and risking bricking it ? :p

I've ordered a drive which doesn't include the case & PCB anyway as it was cheaper so I'll have to switch the PCBs.

Edit : By the way , if this borders on piracy/homebrew , mods please feel free to delete.
