Xbox 360 RRoD. Are they still failing at an alarming rate?

just get a ps3. xboxs are unreliable. a lot of people are switching

Hmmm as I think about the third PS3 I've now had and had to pay Sony £90 for the last one..

Had one brick on me, another one blu ray drive packed up... PS3 isn't any better at times, trust me and anyhow MS have provided a much better warranty then Sony..

And, pointless.. 360, Ps3 whatever they both die and we still buy them.. Its all about the games.!!:p

I've had 2 RROD, although my current elite has lasted the longest so far *touch wood*.

TBH I'm more ****ed off about the crappy quality of the play and charge kits. Gone through more of those, and they don't seem to care about any kind of warranty on them.

Well done. You just made yourself look like a moron.

My latest Xbox to fail was as an Elite that I bought last Xmas, so it was one of the later generations of the Jaspers. It didn't red ring, but the drive failed on it recently.

As detailed in another thread, I exchanged it recently for the new Slim Xbox which would make this my sixth Xbox in total! I'm hoping this one lasts longer!

My memory is terrible but I think I bought mine back in 2007 and it had it's first RROD in early-mid 2009. I was going to send it off to get repaired/get a replacement but I thought I'd double check it to make sure it was still RROD'ing just before I sent it. Sod's law the thing started and played Forza 2 without a hitch so I didn't bother sending it. The repair ticket then ran out because I forgot about it.

I don't think it can make it's mind up what it wants to do because it goes from working to RROD'ing quite randomly, I can walk in and try to start it and it'll RROD, then restart it and it'll work. I can use it a few times and it'll be fine, then other days it'll just refuse to work. I still haven't sent it off and I plan on making my own repairs soon.

I bought a PS3 a few months later and to be honest I might as well have put my money in a paper shredder because I've hardly used the thing. It's good for my lazy days when I can't be bothered to get out of bed and want to go on the internet and the days when college was closed due to the snow back in January/February because I could see if college was open without getting out of bed by checking the college website on the PS3, but the games just bore me to death.

Being mostly a PC gamer the 360 didn't get used much but that didn't make a difference to my Xbox obviously.

I wondered how long it would take before someone came up with that suggestion and I'm surprised it took so long! ;). I'll stick with my 360 thanks. I might pick up a PS3 if the price drops further though as they are both great consoles.

I agree with Drex, I have friends who repair consoles (reflow) for extra money, and where as the Falcon's (175w) certainly reduced the RROD incidents to much lower levels, they aren't immune, however the Jaspers (150w) seem to be fairly robust and they rarely see them, and it's not usually the standard RROD fault..

I'd be very happy to recommend a Jasper as a 2nd hand bargain.

And regarding PS3's.. the Phat model is becoming quite unreliable, repairers that I know testify they see equally as many of these as 360's. Even looking on Ebay, there are 277 PS3's (Only 7 are slim) Vs 338 360's (Can't see which are Jaspers, but predominantly they are old 20Gb affairs).. I was dissuaded from getting a second hand PS3 phat for that very reason (Bought a new Slim)..

To be fair, the PS3 needs a price drop ASAP. Its too expensive now, when it had the blu ray edge it was worth the asking price, but blu ray players can be had for under £100 now.

£260 for a games console might seem cheap, but compared to how old the console is starting to get, and compared to a 360 slim its actually quite expensive now. I think you might be able to get a Ps3 with a 160GB drive for just a tad over £230 but its not easy.. General starting price is the £250 - £260 mark.

Anyhow, not to de-rail the thread.

Indeed, I repair them for a little extra beer money myself, I've done way over 100 consoles and I've yet to come across a RRoD Jasper, the only Jaspers I've ever had (probably two or three at the most) have been drive issues.

did it on purpose m8 2 c reactions :p ;)

Lolol I'm sure u did m8 lol

I got my 360 back today. They've only gone and replaced it with a new one!! Gutted when I found out it was just an original 360. :(
