I'm not saying 50% of the consoles out there are faulty. I'm saying it seems to be a 50/50 chance the console you buy will end up faulty. I've come to that conclusion because within my group of friends, and from the forums I visit, The amount of 360's out there that have gone pop, Seems astounding.

I'm not a 360 hater or anything, I'm wanting a 360, But if theres a version 2 coming out with a cooler running processor, then thats the one i'll be buying. Due to the fact, It's got less of a chance of Overheating.

saying its 50/50 is stupid you only ever hear of the downsides. Ive had mine since febuary not had one issue! (touch wood)

I have HDMI on my TV and the biggest issue i have with this is, i get more PiP options with HDMI :p

Another with a release day 360 working fine and dandy and I play it A LOT!

Also what is PiP? I have it on my tv bit it says its "unavailable", whats its purpose? My 360 is connected via VGA.

Having *just* bought an xbox360, i will be pretty annoyed if this gets released any time soon... but, cant definitely understand why microsoft would do this.

But, if includes hdmi, hd-dvd, iptv, dvr etc, itll probably cost more and in that case, im not too fussed

I've just been reading the comments on other forums, and I just don't understand peoples negativity..

This is a minor 'update' in terms of the HDMI,

The processor (even if it's the new 65nm one) is the same speed
The memory is the same speed/amount
The games are the same..
The 'old' 360's are still 1080p one way or another

The only difference is HDMI, which lets face it is a welcome addition, but not essential.. and it was clear MS didn't include one from the beginning as it just pushed the price up and at launch wasn't a common connection..

If they where 'upgrading' the console, i.e a faster processor/more memory etc, then yeah, it would be a big deal, but this is just 'adding' a small feature that isn't actually adding much, it already does 1080p, it is just adding the latest connector..

I really think people think it's some underhand sinister plot directed at them..

Just relax, and embrace it..

It's clear the whole HD era is upon us, and is rapidly changing, look at HD-DVD and Blu-ray, look at HDMI itself, it's on V1.3a already.. it's all MS and SONY can do to incrementally add on these minor upgrades in connection standards etc..

Perhaps I've got it all wrong, but on the bright side, I won't be getting stressed by it all..

Well said and i dont really see the need to upgrade to HDMI tbh, well at least not for a long time yet.

Geez some people in here need to get a quick grip on reality....oh wait i forgot this is OCUK :p...reality for most of you doesnt exist other than this place:p

Says the guy with a gamerscore of 5000 and a postcount of 15,000 :p

Can someone prove to me that the HDMI will be a better picture than Component or VGA?

I suggest all the people complaining take their 360 back to the store they got it for a full refund and wait til god knows when for the Mark2. By then I will have had 2 years gaming and be thinking about the xbox 720 which will be announced around the time of your mark 2 360. So you have something else to complain about.

It's digital so in theory it will be lossless over a 2m distance whereas with analogue you will always lose some of the picture information unless the cable is a superconductor because it cannot be 100% reconstructed at the recieving end, wheras digital can. Of course none of this will be noticeable to the human eye compared against a good vga cable. :D

It's better in theory but all else being equal you'd never see a difference pic quality-wise. In a lot of instances VGA is best because of overscan/underscan issues.

Exactly yet people are getting their knickers in a twist over next to nothing. If you had a LCD with only one HDMI I'd rather use it for something else other than the 360 anyway.

It's not just because it's digital, if sending analogue the panel has to add further processing. Also for scaling, if you have a 1080p panel, and send 730p via VGA then the panel will have to scale it up. It's the same reason as sending digital output to a av amplifer rather than analogue, as the av amplifier has to convert this to digital, process it (bass managment) then converts back to analogue prior to pre-amp outputs.

But if the Xbox sends 1080p via HDMI into the panel there is no scaling or further processing.

It's like saying sending 1024x768 on a 20" widescreen 1680x1050 over VGA is acceptable and you won't notice the difference in picture quality.

Not only that but I'm positive HD-DVD movies won't play with the older xbox's, due to HDCP issues- only work over HDMI.

So Xbox 360 HDMI outputs is a important feature if you want to watch HD-DVD movies and especially if you have a HD screen. Although MS should really release a HDMI cable to work with existing units, it's not right to get HDMI you need to buy a new Xbox.

Or just buy a decent TV like an LG :p

Well if its true we won't see these V2.0 consoles until later this year anyway (if the rumour is true)...the 65nm processors are delayed....so by then many Xbox 360 owners would've had a good solid 18 months gaming :)

A bigger hard drive and better cooling are a bonus, but HDMI is not that essential yet (HDCP years off?...of course peeps with 32"+ HD LCD TVs could be a bit miffed  I have a 720p TV with HDMI and it would be nice to use the port, but I ain't bothered :D

I assume Microsoft can avoid selling the Xbox 360 with a price drop altogether and just release this newer version instead....:(

Don't HD-DVD have HDCP copy protection? HD-DVD players are out, and so are a few HD-DVD titles (50?)

The ict flag wont be enabled until 2010 at the earliest, and I think probably never, so you can still have full 1080p over analogue outputs. It has AACS protection so you can't just copy the files to a pc, but at the moment theres nothing stopping you from making an almost perfect copy of a 1080p hd-dvd.

Yeah........im soooo jealous that you have far more spare time to waste at home than i do :p
I'd love more free time to waste but I wouldn't dream of spending that much time on here.

I really hope microsoft do bring this HDMI xbox360 out and soon....

And am hoping that it will be able to take any normal HDMI cable...
as i only need a .75 metre cable instead of this crazy long HD component cable that you get with the xbox360 now..

Why O why can't they just put phono sockets/video out/s-video sockets on the back of the 360 like this about every other AV stuff has...

What is it with Consoles and them having to have there own special video out cables...Why can't they just be the same as a DVD player,AV amp,VCR,TV,skybox etc
