On the 20th September at 00.01am until the 29th September at 23.59pm, Xbox Live! Gold will be free to all EU members.

Yes you lucky people, after the delay of the PS3 release, Microsoft has come to comfort you all with a free week of Xbox Live! for all Sliver members in the EU :D.

LOL thats what i was just thinking, why not give a free week when peoples gold accounts are coming to an end ie after their yr is up??. Would make more sense imho...

EDIT: Seems its only geared towards new owners or ones that havent got a gold membership...
 
£40 a year is hardly a lot of money for what you get. I got my 360 yesterday. I am very impressed. So much nicer playing games on a big tv in the living room and not having to worry about overclocking, tweaking etc.

I subscribed to XBL gold a week after getting my 360 I was and still am extremely impressed by the system. I hope they continue to add to it and the 360's dashboard!

Maybe most OcUK members are Gold account holders already Microsoft aren't really aiming this at us now are they :).

As far as I remember there is a 60% user base of Live! members (what percentage are Gold or Silver I don't know). If you say that all of the 60% are Gold members, then there are still 40% of 360 users who are ripe for picking to become Gold members.

I don't know what Microsoft could do to give something back to Gold members. Perhaps a reduced subscription for long standing users and/or some kind of loyalty scheme where they re-pay you with Live! points or something similar.

In all honesty, if you look around you can quite often pickup bargain Live! packs for half price including a game (think PES 5 + 12 months/PGR 2 + 12 months packs).

Not all, I'd have thought the majority of people aren't on Gold, but the Xbox owner representation here is generally of people that have the internet, and regularly post on a gaming forum, meaning they'll automatically be more likely to go for Gold, in my eyes anyway.

Free gold for a week is pretty good, though be prepared to have a load of numpties appearing online in that week.
 
Ohhhh this is very cheeky. EU people getting shafted by Sony and now MS coming to the rescue lol
