You should have bought a PS5 and a copy of Demons' Souls if you wanted to see next-gen visuals ;)

On a serious note I feel a Playstation would be a better option to accompany your computer as most Xbox titles are out on PC.

So HDR TV is on the list, limit is 1000 ideally , can be flexible if it is truelly one good TV, any recommendations? ideally would like 120hz too, but that would not be a killer.
Ill be having a play tonight on the X updated tittles. pc monitor is 3440x1440p 144hz, so my TV hasnt had a lot of love these days, the xbox is the route back to that alas working from home means i never leave the desk otherwise. wife would like to see more of me haha.

Has to be a win win, if you don't get on with the X after a TV upgrade, you can always flog it and potentially get what you paid for it. Then you have a quality TV to watch some stuff with the other half.

I think with all the hype that was/is around for the new consoles, they will only really shine when titles release fully utilising all that is on offer. I'm sure both consoles will really stretch their legs next year. As interesting as the Medium was for the SX I was a little underwhelmed after playing it a while and due to it rendering two worlds at the same time it was only 30 FPS.

Last gen games with Quality or performance modes tend to give the choice of FPS improvement (as does HDR and the Auto HDR for titles that do not have it by default. I have been playing Deep Rock Galactic, The Division 2 and The State of Decay. Give them a spin maybe, if not your bag I'm not sure what else to recommend. I think the Hitman series also benefits. Fallout 4 is due a patch (timeline unknown though). I anticipate a lot more titles will follow suite as it is potentially a way to breath life into older titles until games are created fully embracing the new toolkits.

Hope you get a TV you are happy with!

120hz>HDR>>>4K

HDR and 120hz drastically change the experience while the bump from 1440p to 4K isn’t even physically discernable to the human eye for most people’s viewing distance.

1080p to 1440p/4K is more is a noticeable jump though, but that also generally came with more detailed geometry and effects too so it’s hard to be impartial when comparing.

Besides the lack of any killer new games the pad is the most disappointing thing for me. Even without the haptics etc. the PS5 pad just feels so much better.

The materials, shape, weight and definitely the buttons are way ahead of the Xbox controller.

I hope a new Elite may be released which improves things as for any multi platform games I'd much rather play on my PS5.

100% agreed, shame we can't pair the ps5 pad to the xbox. It is on another level that thing.

I play all multi platform games on xbox though, PS5 is just for exclusives for me.

Problem is, if a 120hz HDR TV is essential to fully appreciate the console that makes a £450 console, £1450.

I'm playing on a 1080p Panasonic :(

Not really, most people already have 4k hdr tvs for movies/TV. Most sets have 120hz.

Then look at a pc.

Decent CPU is just under the cost of a series X on its own.

I want an xbox series x but there is no point having a next gen console if you havent got the screen to make the most of it, to which i havent. I will start saving and by the time its black friday again ill be able to get a decent enough tv to make it worth while. Also should have some actual next gen games out by then too which would be cool.

Most sets do not have 120hz, the 4K TVs most people have will be rubbish, the HDR constant ratio will be pretty dire and therefore you won't get the full effect.

Exactly. I’m convinced most people who think they’re playing in HDR are really not because of their 400 nit display. OLED people excepted.

Somewhere in the middle.
Ive been more than impressed with my Series X but most of that comes from playing on my Panasonic HDR tv.

My TV is 4yrs old (dx902b) but I am not aware of many TVs that go any brighter. It can sustain 1300 nits. Its like having the sun in your face

I have the series x and ps5 and both look amazing graphically on my LG CX oled at 120hz...But gameplay is so much better on a decent monitor imho.
Im running the series x on a samsung g7 odyssey at 120hz/1440p and the games run so much nicer and smoother and are much more snappy!

That’s why they have the Series S, although even that benefits a lot from HDR and 120hz. Just because you’re missing some of the big features on your screen that doesn’t mean you won’t appreciate the quicker loading times and new games.

The lack of clear standards for HDR means that a lot of people are left underwhelmed by it when they try it. This also applies to OLED owners who just copy settings from the internet instead of properly calibrating their displays, they’re missing out on a lot that these OLEDs have to offer.

If I buy an expensive telly I don't think I should have to pay some bloke to come round and calibrate it just to make it look like it should. Or spend hundreds on specialist equipment to do it myself.

Spare a thought for me who is gaming on an old Samsung 720p lcd tv lol.

But regardless I don’t regret buying my series x. At some point this yr I will be upgrading to a better screen, it’s just finding one at is decent and a good size. I’m tempted to get the 48” OLED from LG but seeing as there might be a 42” I might wait for that. Although it’s not going to be cheap but that’s what you pay for being first in getting new tech.

So far all the games I have played on my series x have been excellent. So not one iota of regret on my part.
Get a 55" minimum. You can never have to big a TV!

How is gameplay better on a decent monitor vs playing on an OLED?

Buying a cheaper older OLED and getting it calibrated will result in a far better image than buying the latest one and bunging some settings from the internet on it.

It’s not unless he has done something very wrong with the OLED setup.
