Xbox Series S - Currently showing stock on Argos for those who may be interested.

With all the praise that Series S owners are giving it, I'm going for this. Fed up of waiting for X to become available. I'll use my MS reward points on the extra 1TB SSD now instead.

Uh-oh. I've just been charged on my CC and the order hasn't completed. So no order confirmation but a charge made. Crap.

Keep your fingers crossed, should be getting a Series S by Christmas Eve as they're back at Microsoft Store. There's so much stuff I want to play with not having an Xbox for several years.

By the way MCC happily runs off external storage.

I was quite surprised it didn't ask for it to be moved.

These are indications of which games are still being compiled using the old Xbox Development Kit. If the games are still built with the XDK (which can support some Series X|S optimization) then they will be allowed to be run from external devices. It's when games are using the new Game Development Kit (GDK) that the SSD will become mandatory. I don't think the Velocity Architecture is available with anything but the GDK so we still haven't really seen its power yet. I don't even know if there are any games so far built with GDK. They might be the ones that use ray tracing of which there only a handful.

Lucky you! Still trying to snag a Series X but as quick as they come up they sell out.

That's why I went with S. Fed up of waiting. I'm hoping to get the X in about a year now.

But I can't believe how tiny the S is! When I opened the box, I was like "Holy ****!" My iPad mini is about 3/4 the length of it.

I kind of said I'd play Hexic HD as a bit of a joke but I ended up spending two hours on it whilst waiting for Jedi Fallen Order to download in the background. Still as great as it was back in 2005. But it looks like I'm going to do Battlefield Bad Company first as I've been wanting to revisit that for aeons.

I’m new to the MS Rewards app, is it me or is it a bit janky? It’s not recognising my achievements in EA games for that little bonus nor the five searches in the Bing app. I’ve done a full shutdown for the night and will try again tomorrow.

I'm loving this little Series S though! It's such a slick looking bit of tech and seems to have the power for ~1080p 60fps if the developers optimise, which is excellent for the price. It's also nice and quiet (so far) compared to how loud my Pro gets in some games :D. I think that I prefer the feel of the new controller to that of the One too.

As a 4K whore, I thought I'd be peed off at playing 1080p or below on my Series S but I'm actually loving it. Even if the games are the formerly-janky Xbone S versions, they perform really well with the extra grunt on the new console. The loading times are fantastic and the new controller is the best I've ever used. Very pleased.

There probably won’t be many people in this boat (I know @Kreeeee has both) but can someone tell me what happens when you plug an external drive with Xbox One S/Series S versions of games into an Xbox Series X? Does it begin a massive download updating all the games to the Xbox One X/Series X versions?
