Managed to bag a Series X today from Argos, I asked someone in store and they had one left in the back .
Now expandable storage, I know that new Series S/Games have to go on the SSD or the £219.99 expansion card.
But can I Chuck the games from Gamepass and ea play onto a external drive and play from that.
Or should I just stump up the £219.99? Well it will be £29 as I got £190 for my One X sale today.

any games that dont show the X/S logo should be playable of external storage. A few games on gamepass do show it as they have been optimised for the new console's, but most will run from external storage.

Also even for games you cannot play of external storage you can choose to cold store them there still if you want to.

Should be able to get £20 off through unique voucher code, I got the Nvidia Shield Pro for £161 with my code.

Cheers. I love a good sci-fi shooter. But not big on co-op sttuff, so always avoided.

Also, prefer playing through story rather than mostly random run around and do whatever - which i had always assumed this was.

Maybe I'll give it a go now, off your description. Figure out what to do with those raids. Not right now though, as still got some other stuff to get through

There's a solid story. You will have to occasionally have to do a Strike, which is 3 player 'dungeon'. They are pretty quick and fun.

The game runs really well and looks so good.

As its only going to effectively cost you 29 quid I'd just opt for the official expansion drive tbf

Yay! My Series S just came. Happy Christmas to me after all. :D First game I'm going to try - Hexic HD! It's Xbox 360-esque nostalgia time.

Lucky you! Still trying to snag a Series X but as quick as they come up they sell out.

That's why I went with S. Fed up of waiting. I'm hoping to get the X in about a year now.

But I can't believe how tiny the S is! When I opened the box, I was like "Holy ****!" My iPad mini is about 3/4 the length of it.

I want to do the same I just can't have a white xbox on my desk.

I was originally going for the PS5 but can't get over the white colour either so going to get a Series X now and a PS5 next year when they bring a black version out and have the best of both worlds.

If only they did a pure black S, I would have gone for that.

Very few games need to be on internal storage right now. Even with the "Optimised for X|S" games, quite a few are fine on an external drive. The Series S's meagre 360GB is workable for now, so I can't see there being an immediate issue with Series X.

Nab yourself a WD refurb external hard drive. They're dirt cheap (like <£40 for 2TB, check HUKD). Bags of storage for peanuts, and for most games it barely makes no difference outside of loading times.

Here is some loading time measurements on FF15 loading chapter 1.

PC nvme - 7 seconds.
PC sata ssd - 8 seconds.
PS4 pro sata ssd - 27 seconds
Xbox series S external spindle WD passport 2tb - 16 seconds
Xbox series S internal storage - 4 seconds

You can see that external storage is faster than previous gen on a ssd.

Don't forget the PS5 has interchangable face plate covers so when they release those you can just swap them out for a colour you prefer so no need to wait for a black version which may never come anyway.

That's true will wait and see if they do an all black though so I don't have to spend more money on the panels.

Now to just find a Series X that I can buy!
