Xbox360. HMDI + Optical adaptor

I want to use HDMI for video only (direct to TV) and optical (to my amp) for sound.

Where can I get an adaptor from? Failing that I can just hack up my component lead to let me use it for an optical port.

Just use your component lead, it's practically identical to what the adapter looks like. You still end up with a fairly bulky adapter sticking out either way.

Can you chop the cables off the component lead when using it for an optical port? If so you will more or less have what looks identical to the MS adapter.

I got the little adapter thing with my Elite, they charge like £30 for the adapter + HDMI cable I think, pretty stupid!

Although I am even more surprised the 360 doesn't have an optical port as standard! I swear the first PS2 models did along with the Gamecube and original Xbox.
