xbox360's library just gets worse....

I had one of these but the games catalogue is awfull and the motion detection doesn't even work properly.

You played the wrong games ;)

Exclusives wise I lean a little towards the PS3 at he moment - Demon's Souls 2 and Last Guardian should be excellent - but there's not a huge amount in it as the majority of quality in both of the platforms catalogues is in multiformat titles. If we were basing judgment purely on exclusives, the Wii is easily up there with the PS3 and 360.

Really in this last year PS3 has just started to show a good software line up, its taken its time getting upto speed.
However most of the big AAA titles have been pretty darn good. They do seem to of had better exclusive content/titles.

What has surprised me is sales for multiplatform have started to sell better on PS3. It seems with Blu Ray and other hardware advantages with the slim and better price Playstation is starting to hit back. Id be surprised if PS3 doesnt have a larger installed userbase soon.

1 PS3 FIFA Soccer 11 537,002
2 X360 FIFA Soccer 11 359,268

Taking a game like fifa doesn't really mean much, what about other cross platform titles ? EG in the UK something like Assassin's creed 2 ? What were sales like for that per platform ?

Out of curiosity, why doesn't FIFA mean much? it's the fastest selling sports game of all time.

I'd think a game that is smack bang in the middle of the target market for games consoles would be a good example.

Crytek have said Crysis 2 will look better on the PS3 because it is more powerful.

Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 looks 10x better than any driving game on the 360

PS3 FPS = Best GFX

PS3 Driving= Best GFX

It had a massive Sony exclusive marketing campaign and we know the PS3's strongest markets are football-centric ones; Spain, Japan, Italy. Using this game to prove this point is pure spin and you know it. lol

Why not pick MW2?

11.7m on the 360 vs 8.69 on the PS3.

Or why not look at the latest NPD US sales? 484k 360 vs 312k PS3 and that's with the 360 not having a price cut for 2 years. Or WW sales 163k 360 vs 155 PS3.

Because a sample of 1 is pretty much meaningless ?

Especially on a game that is targeted to a certain demographic, a demographic that Sony courts like it's still the 90's.

Why are people going on about sales? What has sales got to do with how many and the quality of exclusive games? So not including motion games what exclusive games are coming out in the next year for the 360 and PS3? For the 360 all i can think of gears 3 and maybe that kingdom crytek game, must be more than just those 2 games confirmed? As for the PS3 from memory it has LBP2, Socom 4, Killzone 3, Motorstorm Apocolypse, Infamous 2, Dc universe, The Agency, New Ratchet game, Resistance 3, Last Guardian, team ico collection and probably a few more ive missed. Theres a few games announced for the 360 that may or not be kinect only and may or may not come out in 2011 mostly the ones at TGS much like some of the PS3 exclusives named at TGS and maybe move only such as Sorcery. Much of this is down how MS and Sony announce games, Sony tend to show the next years games at E3/gamescon etc where as MS normally only show the games for that year. To me I'd like a little of both as waiting for games to come out is a pain, and not knowing what is coming out in the future isnt also ideal.

I have had a xbox360 for years now and only recently traded my Wii in for a PS3 320gb.

I had got bored of the 360 and thought a PS3 would liven up my sofa gaming, plus I love the GT series and had to get it for that.

To me the real advantages of the ps3 over my 360 is that its quieter (new slim 360 is said to be quieter), web browsing (even though its not well executed), free online gaming and that I prefer the controller on the PS3.

To me the real advantages of the 360 over my PS3 games some how seem to look better on it to me, Sky player is why I turn my 360 on most for, good front end (the front end on the PS3 is appalling), Forza 3 is out where as GT5 has been coming out for years now and it only now looks like it will be released. + I like the media player which streams off my pc.

I did think I was going to use the bluray player, but I do find I am much more likely to rent a film over the ps3, xbox or Virgin box and stream it.

To me the biggest selling point would be which one my friend have and who do I want to play against.

I bought a PS3 "exclusively" for GT5, the only discs that go into my machine are BluRays :(
GT5 is gonna have to go a long, long way to better Forza3, imo it's one of the reasons GT5 has been delayed for so long, the developers took one look at Forza3 and went back to the drawing board !!

360 exclusives i haven't seen mentioned are Crackdown and PGR, both worthy of a console purchase alone imo.

lol youve just 'spun' it the other way

both are useless to look at. infact im not even sure why you are both looking at individual game stats when you can surely look at console sales ?

Lol not a chance, if you look at the feature set for GTHD shown in 2006/7 , which was cancelled, you will see the feature set for that game pretty much match GT5 apart from GT5 having the different race series and the special mission.

Lol, that was the point I was trying to make. Anyone can spin it anyway they like.

Console sales wise, the 360 is dominating in the US and UK, PS3 in the rest of Europe and Japan. World wide, it works about evens. Both are healthy, both have great exclusives and both are worth owning, imo.

Sold my 360 as 90% of it's best games were on pc and looked better played better on pc was a no brainer for me in the end.It just doesn't get enough good quality exclusives gears of war(also on pc) is overrated rubbish and then there's halo, mass effect is no exclusive it's on pc.

Don't buy a console based on it's exclusives. Base your purchase on which plays the multi-platform titles better. If you can afford both and you want both then go for it.

PS3 autumn line-up has like, imploded, only GT5 left basically, and that's a maybe anyway. However. 2011 PS3 line-up, damn crap-ton of games; Xbox 360, atm all we have is Gears, and Codename:Kingdoms and the various kinect exclusives (Which tbh, have dubious value to me personally, due to the typical on-rails nature that Kinect forces).

Off the top of my head, PS3 exclusives for next year are: Killzone 3, Resistance 3, Sorcery, ICO/SOTC HD pack, The Last Guardian, Infamous 2, Twisted Metal, LBP2, FFXIII versus, Socom 4, Motorstorm apocalypse - there's some more, but they don't seem to have really caught my attention. FFXIII versus is only listed because I did love FF VI, FF VII was alright, so this will basically be my first FF game since..ages ago, lol.

HOWEVER, do remember that the PS3's online playerbase is..well, not as large as Xbox's. Now, I'm not saying MP is needed for fun, but it does add a heck of a lot of longetivity. Xbox 360's strong suit is it's online as it stands, not its exclusive's - the exclusives it does have are packed online, you will practically never struggle to get a game. Also uh, PS3 pad is not the most ergonomic - there will be a learning curve, haha.

Now, I dunno how much you'd use your console, but, as a PC gamer primarily, PS3 suits the way I play a lot better - If I don't use the console online for a while, I'm not wasting money, and that's nice, I mean, sure, there's a trade-off in terms of experience, but I'm a PC gamer goddamnit. Probably a good point to make is that, I have a Wii and a PC. I'm going to buy a HD console, and am trying to do this logically. Last-gen the Gamecube was my choice, because, heck, I love Nintendo exclusives :)

(Super-psyched for teh 3DS - KID ICARUS !!! )

*ahem*

Anyway, my point is the main factors to consider are:

How much you will play? Live is a paid service, how much do you use it now? Is it worth it if you play sporadically?

How much do PS3 exclusives um..excite you? If you sell the xbox and then start pining for Halo, that wont be much good. (BTW, how good is reach? I swear, I want/wanted an xbox just for reach LOL)

Is there a capacity to own both consoles? Even if the PS3 is second hand, this is by far the best option. PS3 is quite a single-player geared machine still atm (meaning it hasnt got a super addictive FPS yet), so owning an Xbox for multiplayer is a really solid idea.

I'll probably get a PS3 to supplement my addiction to PC gaming - and then roll on Spring 2011 for teh 3DS :P

EDIT: ORRRRR

Sell your xbox and save it for the steam xmas sale..a literal mountain of excellent games for cheap! Probably not what you wanted to hear but the options always there!

and I thought all the fanboy crap had gone from this forum

Never will go.
Reason for my point and using Fifa was because its one of the most recent releases. Its clear PS3 as a platform has gained more momentum in the last 18 months.

Personally I would say, I think their are more good reasons now for a X360 console owner to also buy a PS3 than a PS3 console owner to also buy a X360. Of course both are well worth having and its stupid to only support one and downplay the other. Live is one of the best things for online players, thats obvious but PS3 has more benifits as a system and better range of exclusive AAA titles.
