Hi all I’m stuck with no graphics card atm. The time it’s taking to rma my 7900GT is too long.

My budget is around £220. One thing I was wondering would it be worth buying 2 3850 (PowerColor) 512Mb and overclocking there socks off? How far would I need to go to be on par with 3870 in crossfire since these have very good coolers and the only difference is then the GDDR4 ram assuming I can get to the same core speed? Also how would these perform against the 8800GTS? Is crossfire like SLi where only a few games really support it?

is that going to be cheaper then 2 3850s?

no.

The 2 3850 512s will overclock to 750 at least on stock voltage...and if you get the powercolors the ram will do 1050-1100 easy....

At these speeds they will be very fast in crossfire...and crossfire support has matured quite a bit.

What sort of 3D mark score should i get with 2 3870? and More importantly could i run Crysis and very high setting at 1680 x 1050 or would i still need to drop down a little? :p

I can just about run Crysis with most settings at very high at 1920x1200 fairly well. Slows down a bit during firefights and my 3dMark score is quite low but that's more down to my cpu than the cards.

well when i get my cards which ever ones i'm going to run that test hehe :)

i wonder if the 3870X2 will change the 3870/50 priceing. We can live in hope :)
