I bought a 7900GTX about 2 months ago from another etailer and had so many problems that I went out and bought x1900XT so I could actually play the games I wanted...
In Tomb Raider-Legends & Oblivion I would get constant locks with any sort of mouse movement the worst was in Tomb Raider in the manor house main room were the locking would last upto 2-3 seconds
this is the transcribe between me n XFX...

[steve - 2006/04/26] High detail games are locking/stuttering even @ high frame rates. Games include Tomb Raider(yes I know ,known issues),Oblivion Elder scrolls Need for speed most wanted..older games are ok.EG Unreal 2K4..I also get a small patch of corruption that flashes up. Things I`vand PCI-E are enabled. Tried original bios and latest 1103. Tried Asus chipset drivers new old. Vsync on and off tried. Reducing audio acceleration..even tried no sound card in Tried linked drivers. No improvment I`m afraid Tomb raider still shuddering (in a big way almost locking)as is Oblivion + NFS MW.Even at 800x600 res..and high frame rates. Many thanks Steve Waters hi vinny this is a response I typed out 10 days ago and tried to post but it kept comming up with a site problem. And wouldnt go through even though I tried about 10 times on differnt days but thanks for getting back to me vinny hope this works.. Hi Tony I`ve tried bios defaults. System is not overclocked due to issues. PCI-E is not overclocked. PEG Link is disabled as enabled it causes video corruption when enabled even in windows. 12v Rail and PCI-E are enabled. Many thanks Steve Waters trying again....
[steve - 2006/05/29] wow site seems to work...to update further I`ve tried another XFX 7900Gtx 700/1800 clock version it was exactly the same as mine. I`ve tried the latest asus bios 1205 which has support for the 7900 as a listed fix.I`ve tried another mobo + 3 PSU`s ...beta 97 drivers from nvidias site...none of them have worked. I have found something that has fixed all my locking/stuttering I fitted a ATI X1900XTX card and all my problems have gone away....I even tried another ATI card the same perfect. Put back the XFX 7900 and lock stutter...
[PAULV - 2006/05/31] Hi, thanks for your message and sorry to hear you are experiencing problems with your product. Please remove all graphic card installations from add/remove programs. Restart with no driver cd inserted and not connected to the internet, then cancel the hardware wizard. Please ensure up-to-date mainboard chipset drivers are installed, you are logged on as an administrator and disable antivirus/diagnostic/monitoring software before installing the graphics drivers. We recommend setting BIOS optimal defaults, but note your IDE/SATA/RAID settings before changing the BIOS. Please avoid overclocking the card, the CPU or the PCI-E slot and ensure you have supplemental power leads to both the graphics card and the mainboard (where required). Also, please ensure you have installed up-to-date mainboard chipset drivers before the graphics drivers. Please keep us posted if any problems. Kind regards Paul
[steve - 2006/05/31] Hi paul Ive done all the things you have listed long ago none of them worked.System has never been clocked as I run defaults. Please read what ive listed above about trying two Geforce 7900s and also using the ATI cards which resolved the issue.I`ve done about 30+ clean installs to try and resolve the issue. The problem is the XFX card.. Many thanks Steve W.
[TONY - 2006/06/01] Hi, thanks for the extra information, we have been investigating this issue in some detail and it does appear there is not one single factor responsible and different remedies have been shown oto solve, Amongst them is adjusting the memory clock, so we do advise using coolbits to adjust, by, say, /- 5/10MHz, or even use the optimal settings. Also, there is a beta driver available, ftp://www.xfxsupport.com/public/driver/91.28_XP_MCE_2000_forceware_intl.zip, please keep us posted on your progress. Thansk Tony
[steve - 2006/06/04] tried the beta driver and it made performace worse...tried clocking the card down and its no differnent tried many differnet clock speeds still no better.
[TONY - 2006/06/05] Hi, sorry to hear our efforts have still not helped, please check the hard drive and memory for errors, very often this occurs as memory is cached to hard disk, and check your BIOS is set correctly for your hard-drive. Also, try not connected to the internet and close down unnecessary programs. Thanks Tony
[steve - 2006/06/05] Hi tony Ive tried 3 differnet hard drives all have passed manufacturers test..as listed above I`ve tried 3 differnet lots of ram 2x OCZ and 1 x Cosair. Bios is correctly setup for raid 0 and was set up ok when using a single drive. I have also tried not connected to the net a clean install with no anti virus software and nothing else running in the background. Still no better thanks steve W.
[TONY - 2006/06/06] Hi, have you by any chance tested with 3dmark? Overall score may give us a clue if it is the card or other factors. Thanks Tony
[steve - 2006/06/06] 3d mark 05` is 9343 and 06` is 5857 on my 3800 X2 athlon Thanks Steve W.
[TONY - 2006/06/07] Hi, that sounds pretty good, so appears there is not a lot wrong with the GPU itself, so I would suspect other factors here, disabling dual-core function may help as games to date are generally not designed for dual-core, so no real benefit in having dual-core enabled. Also, a word on the BIOS, we tested similar cards (-YDP and -YDD) on the same mainboard ok, with mainboard BIOS version 1015 and driver 91.28. Thanks Tony
[steve - 2006/06/07] Hi tony the lastest bios for the A8N32-SLI Deluxe is the 1205 which has support for the 7900 as a listed update.which is what im using. I have also tried the Asus A8N-SLI Premium and yesterday I tried Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe it worked a little better but the issue was still there in oblivion and worse in Tombraider. Not sure on your exact meaning of disabling dual core ?(do you mean assign Tombraider to 1 CPU though task manager- proccesses- set affinity? Also my card is YDE not YDP or YDD... Many thanks Steve W.
[TONY - 2006/06/08] Hi, yes, try assigning the game to just the 1 cpu, also, please ensure you have applied the dual-core patch/update from AMD. Thanks Tony
[steve - 2006/06/08] Hi I`ve tried assigning to 1 cpu a while back and it made no differnence...tried it again tonight just to check still no better. Yes I`ve got the latest AMD driver 1.3.1.13 Is there a long list of thing you want me to try rather than try 1 thing each night ...because I`ve been doing this for like 44 days....thanks and have yet to play my games ! Thanks Steve W.
[TONY - 2006/06/09] Hi, yes, I think we have covered any configuration issues we suspect may be responsible, but before applying for RMA for the card, if possible, try an alternative PSU, or even in another system if possible, just to be sure it is the card itself. Thanks Tony
[steve - 2006/06/09] Yes I`ve tried it another system and yes I`ve tried 3 diffrent PSU`s as listed above... Many Thanks Steve W.
[TONY - 2006/06/12] Hi, yes, in this case, please contact your supplier, but let us know if we can assist further. Thanks Tony

Having tried a lot of differnet mainboards and PSU's memory 3x bios on my board 4x different drivers nothing fixed it but the ATI card ..so do you reckon its a duff card or are NVidia 7900GTX that bad in Tombraider and oblivion as a side note oblivion was locking even @ 170fps
Mucho thanx
