Hi,

Just bought a new system based on an Abit mobo, E6600 CPU and XFX 8800 GTS card. My power supply is four years old and rated at 430W. I know that the minimum is 400W but will I need additional connectors? Also, will this card run hot and sound like a hairdrier? Thanks in advance.

If its a decent PSU it should be fine, as long as its got about 28a or more on the 12v rail, the GTS/GTX are amazingly quiet so you have no worries there, and also you won't need any additional connectors as they come supplied with the 4x pin to 6x pin adapters in the box for if your PSU doesn't have the 6x pin, so your good to go. :)

Excellent, many thanks! This card does sound a brilliant piece of kit in the price / performance stakes. It is a fair bit more powerful too than the ATI 1900 XTX.

Edit: I'm currently running **don't laugh** a 9700 Pro. It's struggling a bit in GTR 2...

9700pro was a beauty of a card, the one that put ATi on the map that, took Nividia by suprise with that one, the GTS is definately more powerfull than the x1900, also got much better image, cracking cards for the prices, your gona be blown away by the performance increase, that is going to be some massive, massive jump, enjoy. :D

Built the system today and OMG! I'm running GTR2 at 1600 x 1200 everything totally maxed out. Simply stunning. Not a hint of slowdown @ 4xFSAA and AF. Wicked machine. Bought a new power supply (600W) to get it a bit of leeway. I'm gobsmacked by the 8800 GTS so far...

ive just flashed my xfx 8800 gts bios to the xxx version which is 580 core and 1800 and its perfect... much better. :D
