I think Arcade sticks do give you an advantage, they are laid out more efficiently, and are better mechanical designs for speed/accuracy of control, surely this is why they are so popular?
And as mentioned above, a Wheel can be an advantage in some driving games, and the example of F1 2010 is a good one.. Not only that, but a Fanatec wheel allows adjustments and a level of control above that of the standard MS Wheel (or any low level wheel), I can tell you it certainly does give you an advantage, I instantly improved all my laptimes when I got mine..
The XIM is however taking this to a higher level, but crucially it's available to everyone, and still works within the confines of the game's pointing system, so has the same response rates as a Pad, it's just that it's more intuitive to use for people..
Sounds like people being a bit sour tbh, if they 'must' finish above other people etc, just go and get an XIM yourself, in the same way that if you want to be competitive in F1 2010, you need to really buy a wheel..
