Xmas has come early! New G73

Hi I'm thinking about importing a G73jw 3de too. Where did you get yours from?

Also did you have any issues with it being different to a uk version. I assume you had to source a power adaptor and the keyboard is probably different but was there any other differences? Any affect on software?

Thanks for any help!

the only issues with this being a US laptop is the @ and the " keys being the "wrong" way around from a UK keyboard. As for the power adaptor, you can either buy a plug and replace the 2 pin American plug with a uk spec one, use a 2 pin adaptor or buy a replacement cable for the power supply (not expensive).

We can't tell you the supplier because they are an obvious competitor, but if search a well known auction site for g73, you will come up with one or two names. One in particular will allow you to customise your laptop to your hearts content. You can also spec a 2 way prepaid return to America, so if it does require returning, its all sorted. You can add all sorts of other handy options too.

As for carrying it back through customs etc, you don't pay duty on laptops, just the VAT.

On a side note, how are you getting on with it ssiruuk2? Any issues of note?

A word of warning, don't use easyflash to update the bios as there are a number of instances where it kills the motherboard and invalidates the warranty. Apparently, you should use winflash instead.

Am really enjoying owning this laptop. It was a bit of a shot in the dark being a brand new model that had been out a few weeks and hadn't read a proper review as there weren't any available other than peoples opinions of it on US forums!

Have had no issues at all to be honest, touch wood..everythings working as it should. I am just using it out of the box and haven't bothered doing a clean install. AC Adapter is the usual auto switching 110v - 240v so just use a standard UK power lead and your away.

Any negatives..? No RAID which would be nice as it has 2 hard drives and its a fair old brick to move around. This machine is pretty heavy / bulky but that comes with the territory I guess! I got it as a desktop replacement so that doesn't matter to much to me.

Am very pleased with the way its perfoming in all games I've tried on it. The screen is just fantastic which is a relief as its one of the reasons I went for this particular model with it being matte - its personal preference of course but I really dislike the recent trend of glossy screens. Another thing that still impresses me about it is how quiet it is even in games.

The 3d is great and not the gimmick I thought it would be - had never seen the Nvidia system before buying this computer, going to start saving for a new TV to output onto :)

If anyone is going to US I would definately recommend getting one or you could look at importing, god knows whats going on with the Asus UK models of the standard JW as no one still has any stock! Hopefully they'll release the 3de soon over here and at a reasonable price. ;)

Thanks for the assistance, I'm really considering getting a US one now. I wish UK models were available and at a similar price but if you can import one for about half as much...

No problem - if you do want to seriously consider importing one heres a pointer - search on Donald Stratton G73 or Ken Lee G73; that will lead you in the right direction. Different US companies but both highly regarded, either will be able to help you with your import.

Ste-Sim - Cant be many that own a UK JH model, very nice indeed!! Random question, but whats that Win 7 Gadget you have running at the top of your desktop?
