Xonar DG - ultimate budget headphone card?

What would anybody have to say about a current D2X owner switching to one of these? I really miss the headphone front panel auto switch and am not at all sure I'm using my D2X at all to it's capabilities. I have it hooked up to a cheap set of old creative 5.1's that sound ok for my uses, but the messing around with outputs and stuff to change from 5.1's to headphones drives me nuts :(

So I'm considering selling the D2X and getting a DG instead...

I'd say get one, try it and then make your decision, the most you'll lose is a couple of quid; better to trust your ears than someone else's opinion :)

Also, front panel switching may be fixed using the Uni drivers, might be worth checking out.

Rand Al'Thor - what are you talking about?

For the money there really isn't much to lose by trying. Just buy one and give it a go. Worst comes to worst, sell it on ebay where some noob will pay £20for it.

The more I have it the more I like it. 5.1 through speakers seems more precise than my X-Fi Xtreme Music for example, and with the right settings stereo music sounds excellent.

took a plunge and ordered one today, mainly for gaming.

what headphone to get? I got the steelseries siberia atm.

I finally received the card from ocuk.

Never knew a sound card would make so much different. I will need to save up and invest in a good quality headphone. I just don't like the look on any of the goldring headphones.

Why would you care how they look? When they're on your head you won't see them and I'm assuming you'll only wear them at home? I'll never understand why people need their 'phones to look good, I buy mine for sound quality :p

No problem mate, Justin Bieber already signed a quality set just for you:

I did some research and came across these baby Audio Technica ATH-AD700

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/06/10/audiotechnica_athad700_head phone_review/ and anyone on head-fi.org recommended the ATH-AD700 for gaming = ).

It's a bit too pricey for me at the moment, £110 = (
