So I updated a few weeks ago to an Asus Xonar DX sound card after many recommendations on this forum.

I upgraded from a Sound blaster Audigy 2 that had done me extremely well for nearly 10 years and I was hoping that in doing so i'd no longer have any problems.

Sadly this is not the case. I can be listening to my music fine in Winamp, browsing the web, watching videos and so on. And then i'll stop the music for a bit and then maybe 10 minutes later I try to play the music again in Winamp and there is no sound what so ever.

It's like the device is just dissapearing or refusing to work. If I goto the volume control in the tray, bring up my Playback devices and try to do a TEST of the surround it says "Failed to play Test tone"

The only solution is to restart my PC and this is getting damn annoying.

I have the latest Windows 7 Drivers as well as the latest Asus Xonar DX drivers.

I'm sick to the back teeth of buying things that always end up being a disappointment for me, so please help me out and pinpoint me to the problem :D

Thanks in Advance and Merry Xmas

I had simlar trouble with my creative headset with creative software installed would need to reboot to enable different audio devices in the playback tab i removed the creative software which has made the process of switching devices quicker. only having to restart steam to change playback device works fine in other apps without restarting any programs. hopefully bill will sought this

I don't know if this will sort the problem, but it might be worth a try. I have the DS, not so long back the card started making the odd weird sound, then the control panel would not load. After that Win7 told me the card was not present. I took the card out and reseated it, been fine ever since.

Try reseating it, see if that solves anything.
