ok, having a bit of trouble getting my raptor to work with windows 7 but seems to be ok with xp, so really, what are the pros and cons of going back to windows xp from windows 7?
also, ideally would like 64 bit for the extra ram, but remember having a lot of issues with xp 64 last time i used it, still the case?

There aren't really that many pro's to XP over Windows 7 aside from compatibility issues. I hear XP64 has been running fine for a few people on this forum.

Perhaps post more detail about what trouble you're having with Windows 7 so we can try to help?

i cant get it to recognise my raptor drive to install on, neither vista or win 7 do, but xp does, so kinda limits my options if i want to use the drive for OS.

More likely is that it doesn't recognise your disk controller. What controller is it?

Should just be a case of copying the drivers to a USB memory stick and plugging that in during the Vista/7 install.

have tried that, and have tried it on 3 different mobos, none of them pick it up, even when set to ide mode in the bios. whereas xp picks it up fine.

Have you tried a memtest of your RAM at all?. I've had Vista Ultimate x64 fail to install on a machine but XP x86 was alright. Turns out the 3rd 2GB stick was toast.

have tried it with different ram, like i said, tried it on 3 different mobos (pc setups) so can pretty much rule out everything but the drive or some setting that im missing on the install procedure.
