So I've had this setup for about a year, however i had lots of niggly issues with HDMI arc:

- Soundbar deciding not to power on/off when using the TV remote
- Weird issues with sound on netflix playback
- Random bouts of no sound

I eventually connected it via optical and it's been fine, however I refuse to believe HDMI arc can be so unreliable. I've even replaced the cable between the TV and soundbar, it's an Amazon basics hi-speed cable. That worked for a while but the same issues resurfaced. Any ideas?

ARC implementations can be flaky, with different manufacturers supporting varying aspects of it. Have you checked for firmware updates for both the soundbar and the TV?

TV is up-to-date, can't see any updates for the soundbar.

Arc is very flakey. It's best to avoid it if you can, for some it can work flawlessly others have niggles.

Yeah, it works flawlessly for me between my LG TV and Denon AVR but it's only used for the apps on the TV.

So spoke to Richersounds today about my niggly issues and the guy wasn't fond of arc. He suggested wiring all of my HDMI devices through my soundbar then using optical to my TV? Hadn't really thought of this and obviously id still need a HDMI connection between the bar and TV.
