I am sure I heard something on the Beeb about some farmers/ agricultural company using them to survey crops, if they need more water, plant food or insecticide spraying on them or something...let me see if i can find the article

There are around 200 licensed CAA drones in the UK, so it definitely could have been.
I would say it's more likely a rc model plane though.
