Soccer-Zambian player Nsofwa dies in training

JERUSALEM, Aug 29 (Reuters) -

Zambian striker Chaswe Nsofwa
of Israeli second division side Hapoel Beer Sheva collapsed and
died during a practice match in the southern desert city on
Wednesday, ambulance staff said.
Nsofwa, 27, was pronounced dead at Beer Sheva's Soroka
Hospital after resuscitation efforts on the pitch failed to
revive him, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.

Poor guy :(

RIP.

As above why is this happening so much. Is it because we don't normally hear it but recent stories are brought up more in light of the Sevilla guy?
I would suspect that is the case. It does probably make small time news in local papers and what have you, but with the publicity of the Sevilla case... what with it happening on the pitch and all... I suppose it's now being brought into the light more (as you said).

Sounds odd/horrible, but are any of these deaths/heart attacks (etc) drug related at all?

I was reading about the Marc Vivien-Foe incident earlier and they didn't find any traces of drugs in his body so I would say no. But then you never know.

Anyone remember Dave Longhurst 1990 - he collapsed at a game one Saturday afternoon, for York City.

I remember the footage of him on the pitch shown on Grandstand.

He died of a heart attack, and was the first player to die in a football league match for 69 years.

RIP

Yep, I remember it well and if I remember correctly, a minutes silence was observed at all grounds the week after.

All these deaths are rather worrying, RIP to everyone concerned.:(

Another one this week? That's horrible, my heart goes out to their families.

As for the Sevilla player I saw the video on youtube, and his girlfriend/wife looks (quite understandably) sooo upset..
