Yet more stupidity from the ASA

It has been out for quite a while now yes. The ASA are neither the sharpest tools in the box nor the quickest in responding it would appear but I don't want to judge them too harshly, they are only able to deal with complaints that come into them, they don't generate them themselves.

Isn't this about the ad for the DVD release?

or did that come out ages ago too? :/
tbh anything with Angelina Jolie in is glamourising whatever she's doing :P

What I find to be truly pathetic about it is that they banned something on the basis of just one complaint. Not 100, 400 or even 1000 but just a single, solitary complaint. The mind just boggles at whomever is so sad that they felt the need to phone or write in about a bloody advert for an 18 certificate film.

Should the number of complaints matter then? Or should one complaint be enough for them to investigate the advertisment and then make a judgement on the content of the ad rather than the number of complaints?

If you make "number of complaints" the reason for an add to be pulled then you give carte blanche for campaigns from any number of fringe groups to get adverts banned easily.
