Young people feel 'isolated' in their community

Catholic child abuse is the new Crusades. The bloody priests had to screw it up and give people a provable reason to distrust and mock all Christian churches. Thanks a bunch.

Funny you should say that vh, I was going to draw a very close comparison.

I do feel for people like yourself who I understand to be an intelligent and religious person, who suffer under the banner of the church.

However, as much as I respect your personal faith you can see how this whole situation is lose/lose for the religion in a modern age.

It wasn't a proper go at you, and I did flick for a second on how it would make you feel. But, again, the church has to live with the reputation it has clearly deserved (the coverups intensify the issue).

You're right, and I'm only sensitive because it's so galling, in the same way that as a religious person I end up defending faith against artuments predicated on such extreme things as Islamic terrorism, which give the whole thing a bad name.

Anyway, on topic, I think we agree that any kind of activity to draw a community together, church included, is good for the community, so we can move on with that.

As a relevant aside... There is a church movement called "Cell church", the idea of which is that you have small groups which meet together and evangelise to others to bring new members into the group, growing until they split into two new groups, sort of like a biological cell does. Well, the founders are in the process of changing the name because people hear talk of religious "cells" and think of... terrorists. Cheers Muslim terrorist minority.

and people didnt have these anyway?

religion prays on the weaker people in society, gives them some faux hope. or simply moves on to new more easily twisted targets, such as africans etc who do have a lot of poverty and a lot of ears that you can force to listen by rattling a water can around.

the decline in christianty can be attributed to availability of information. once you find out that the bible stories are not unique and are actually a mish mash of previously held legends...

but then withold this information from other people and contonue to go down the standard indoctronation process, well is it any wonder that religious 'faith' has dropped?

So you are saying that giving people hope is a bad thing. That all the good work the churches of the world do for the poor in Africa and other continents is also bad just because it is the church?

You might want to visit some of the church projects in Africa to see exactly what they are doing, with education, employment, housing and offering an alternative to the Warlords and Tribal division and hatred that is prevalent ion such places as Congo and Rwanda.

Things like the Water Project and Christian Aid for example.

Not everything the Church does is bad Nick, and this again shows why my view of your motives is unchanged.

in Africa though they also tell the people not to use condoms and they also tell them even if they did use condoms it would still not help to stop hiv.

Not all Christian Organisation do this, and in fact the Catholics tell them to abstain instead and also many Catholic missions ignore the condom issue completely.

Catholic Bishops like Bishop Kevin Dowling of South Africa publicly criticising the Vatican's policy on condoms.

Father Valeriano Paitioni who is working in Sao Paulo in Brazil (which has similar problems) said "AIDS is a world epidemic, a public-health problem that must be confronted with scientific advances and methods that have proven effective,” he said. “Rejecting condom use is to oppose the fight for life.

So whatever the Vatican may say, the catholic priests on the ground do not always agree.

It is time that the old guard in the Vatican woke up and took notice to be honest.

Besides like I said, not everything the Church does is bad, I did not say that everything they did was good.

When I was young, as in 13-15. Never caused much trouble. Never was off school much at all either. It's down to the parents control. What age they are let roam the streets, what drugs they take, what people they socialize with e.t.c.

The thing is not everyone can be locked in their bedroom but now you find it a lot more since IT came about. People eitha go out clubbing or sit in their bedrooms. It's how I see it now anyway.

Before IT started kicking off I was out all the time in the streets kicking a ball.

BTW I'm 25 now.
