Question first, are the mile and half times measured on or off a treadmill? (hoping they are on!)

What is your mile and a half time? On a treadmill mine is 8 minutes.

No idea, but it would take me longer than 8 minutes I reckon... my fitness is pretty poor atm. In fact I reckon it would take me about 10 minutes if not a bit longer!! :o

Is that bad? Never been a fan of running anything over a mile, I'm much more of a sprinter :)

Surely it's gotta be off a treadmill, it's a bit difficult racing a set distance on a treadmill as you'd have to be adjusting the speed and all sorts

On a treadmill I usually run at ~12kph which is 7.5mph = 12 minutes. I run for about 6-7 miles though when I do!

Probably about 7 and a half, though I can't say I've done a 1.5 mile run and timed it.

I thought it was the easiest method on a treadmill. Just run at a set pace and for 1.5 miles.

Ah that makes more sense, if it's a fitness test then they can just set the speed and you have to run 1.5miles at it.

If it was a race type thing then it'd be v. odd, you'd just have to set faster and faster speeds then run till you fell off, and if you fall off after 1.5miles you pass :p

The 1.5 mile time is something for army selection I believe.

8 minutes is a good time, but I don't think you'll find it measured on a treadmill. I can do just under 9 at a stretch - on streets

1616 metres is a mile....go figure.

Never really tried myself, atm I can do 5 miles in 45 mins (jogging) so I might try it soon.

For the Royal Marines don't you have to do 1.5 miles in 10:45 or something on the treadmill?
Piece of cake if you ask me :D

I have a feeling I'd do a lot better on a track than a treadmill, I hate the feeling of keeping up with the belt, makes me uncomfortable.

Bear in mind they will probably give you a cheeky warmup first. I.e. jogging the mile and a half with some extra surprises thrown in. When I was down at 29 Cdo whilst at uni they gave us a nice 30 minute warmup. Then a BFT (1.5 mile) then a few laps of the assault course.

In reality they will expect under 9:30...I know the Paras do at least.

At the moment I'd probably be just under 10 minutes...haven't done much speed work and I'm a big guy. But I have ran it in just over 9 minutes in the past.

I've just applied for the RAF and I've been told the entry test is 1.5miles in 12minutes 12seconds. Piece of cake :)
Isn't that just under walking pace? :/
